Have you ever disagreed with your brothers? Have you ever argued and misunderstood yourselves? When you stand aside to look at what happened, you’d realize that none of you enjoys being misunderstood, everyone is saying what he or she holds to be true and everyone is trying to sell his or her perspective.
There has never been any family where everyone belongs to the same school of thought and yet it doesn’t reduce our membership in the family.
This should be likened to the Church. We are God’s big family, people who grew up from different backgrounds, hearing different things, learning different things and being wired by culture, perceptions and ideologies to think a certain way. People can also grow up into new thoughts.
Because of our differences, Jews, Americans, Europeans, Asians, Africans and so on, we may not always agree and we may not always grasp certain things easily whether they are truth or lie. There will always be a clash when one wants to sell his or her truth to us but there will also always be people who will buy it. Paul tells us
“For our gifts of knowledge and of inspired messages are only partial; but when what is perfect comes, then what is partial will disappear.” – 1 Corinthians 13:9-10 GNT
We know in parts and we teach in parts. Do you see all our sincere errors? God condones it. He is not as bothered as we are and he has purposed a time when we all shall come to the full knowledge of the truth.
“Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:” – Ephesians 4:13 KJV
The thing is that the more we know, the better ministry we can do for the kingdom but it doesn’t save us more or save us less. The truth sets us free, it guides us to walk in the fullness of what God has done for us in Christ Jesus.
Whether you believe eternal salvation or not, whether you believe sin is dead or not, whether you believe we have eternal life now or you believe we’ll have it later, whether you believe Jesus is God or the son of God. As long as you have you received Jesus as your Lord and saviour, we are part of God’s big family!
What about if you were a Trump supporter or a Joe Biden supporter? Or perhaps you are a Democrat or a Republican? You must belong somewhere after all! Even the middle is a place. Yet, it doesn’t make you less of a Child of God.
None of us had Greek, Aramaic or Hebrew as our native languages and even people who speak something close today, they can’t understand the original language of the Bible literally. Not all of us would have the opportunity to learn Greek or Hebrew, we’ll always hold our English Bibles dear regardless of translation errors. One thing is sure, no matter the error, the intent and message of the Bible were not contaminated.
Your partial knowledge is not a shock to God! Disagreements will not cease, arguments will not end one day. As long as we are here, we will keep learning if we are open to learning and we will keep straightening things out.
The problem is when we begin to do these things with bitterness and when we begin to attack people’s personalities, judging them wrongly, wishing them bad and exhibiting all manner of characters that do not align with who God is and who God has made us. We are asked to speak the truth in love.
One of the quick ways to discern if you are speaking the truth is how much love there is in the communication of that truth. When it’s only your ego that is being massaged by your truth or when your truth is merely designed to expand your influence and not about sincere love to see believers know and do better, then that truth is not worth it.
Another way to see it is that when we communicate truth without love, it ceases to be the truth because love is the way people are made to become receptive of truth.
I call you blessed.
