The day you got born again, even though your body didn’t change, your spiritual state changed and your status on Earth changed too. If you are just visiting the United States of America, then you suddenly got a green card handed over to you, your status has changed automatically! You have become an American citizen and will be entitled to everything due to Americans.
In the same way, when you got born again, your status changed, you didn’t become a heaven candidate. You already passed based on the merit of Jesus! You rather became a child of God because you are born of God’s word and God’s word is God.
There are four things every believer have become and understanding these four things helps us fulfil purpose as believer and ambassadors of God’s kingdom on Earth.
Let’s look at them.
1. You are a sacrifice
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.” – Romans 12:1 KJV
Throughout the Old Testament, sacrifices are made potent when they have been killed. However, in Christ Jesus, we died and was made alive, free from the past, free from sin and free from death!
You have become a living sacrifice!
By the reason of Christ’s death and resurrection, Paul encourages us to “let our bodies be a living sacrifice”. ‘To let’ means to allow or to enable. The ball is in our court, we are the ones who decide to live for God. The second verse tells us how we can allow ourselves to become a living and holy sacrifice.
“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” – Romans 12:2 KJV
We must let go of self and the customs of this world but allow God to transform the way we think which will eventually change the way we live. It is only by this transformation that we begin to learn what God wants from us and how we can please him. To let out bodies become living sacrifice means to let our bodies become useful to God especially with the regards to spreading his love and beaming his light for the whole world to see.
2. You are an altar
“To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious, Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.” – 1 Peter 2:4-5 KJV
An altar is a place where sacrifices are offered. Every sacrifice needs an altar and altars are very sacred place. The beautiful thing is that we have been made a living altar (living stone) where we can offer acceptable sacrifices to God through Jesus.
Our bodies which include our skills, our gifting and everything that makes up our existence on earth can be made a sacrifice to God. However, we have been made the altar where this sacrifice can take place!
God has specifically raised you for this purpose. You have been created for his pleasure and glory and you have been saved for good works. Isn’t it amazing that you are the sacrifice and you are also the altar on which the sacrifice is laid?
“Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?” – 1 Corinthians 3:16 KJV
We didn’t just become the eligible sacrifice, the altar on which this sacrifice can be made but we also became God’s temple! In the Old Testament, God’s presence was heavily felt in the Temple. There was a section of the temple that no one except the priest could access because it was a place full of God’s glory.
Well, we have been made God’s holy temple and the spirit of God dwells in us and our midst as the Body of Christ. This is a profound truth! God’s presence is not in the four walls of a building or at the temple of our various denominational buildings. The presence of God is within us. When we enter any supposed Church building, we don’t come to God’s presence, we come in God’s presence.
Many people live reckless lives and short of who God has called them to be because they do not know who they are and they do not know that they a sacred. That same thing the Jews were afraid of in the Holy of Holies is inside of you!
“But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.” – 1 Peter 2:9 NLT
Every sacrifice needs an altar, every temple needs a priest. We are the sacrifice, we are the altar, we are the temple, we are the priest and Christ is our high priest. Jesus showed us an example of how one could be a sacrifice and also the priest.
Jesus was the sacrificial lamb of God which takes sins away but Jesus was also the priest who gave himself upon the cross. He sacrificed himself!
We have been made a nation of priests, every believer in Christ Jesus is a priest. We don’t have to wait for some ordinations or confirmation. We became priests the day we surrendered to Jesus and by the reason of that surrender we also made ourselves eligible sacrifice because we said “Lord, I accept you today as my master and king. Do with me anything you want to do.”
“You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth.” – Rev 5:10
We are a kingdom of priests who serve God on earth! We are the sacrifice, we are the altar, we are the temple and we are the priest.
