How To Build Lasting Success

If you desire lasting success whether in your marriage, academics, business and other areas of life, you aren’t desiring something that is out of the norm. Everyone loves a good life and everyone loves to have something that would last but the big issue is that it isn’t everyone who truly want to go through the process of building lasting success.

If you truly desire to build lasting success, we have written some tips down for you.

1. Understand where you are at the moment.

Before you think of moving forward, you need to understand where you are. For example, if you want to go to Enugu, you need to know where you are at the moment which is your starting point. Before you look out for route in Google map, you’d be required to supply your present location.

Where you are will help you calculate what it would need and how long it would take to get there. If you are in Lagos, it will be more expensive and time tasking but if you are in Awka, it would be much closer and quick. Until you evaluate your current level, you can’t move to the next level.

Some people are afraid of truly judging their current position, they don’t want the reality to hit them and therefore they keep living in a lie. When you know where you are at present, you can know what is required of you to complete your journey.

I love playing some games, in each of the game, you are told what is expected of you. You may be asked to “roll 50 times, pick twenty hearts and complete 100 jumps in a run”. In the first session, you may have even unintentionally rolled 50 times before your attention was drawn to the mission. You need to know what you had achieved so that you can now focus on what you haven’t achieved.

So, it’s very fine to take your time and access your current position. If you want to be the first, you need to know where you are at the moment.

2. Decide where you are going.

Although you had thought about where you want to go before checking where you are presently. The understanding of where you are at the moment gives you another chance to evaluate where you are going or where you want to go to see if it’s worth it.

Perhaps, you may need to step down a bit or step up. You don’t have to keep looking back at where you have been, you now have to look forward to where you are going. The success of yesterday can be the biggest enemy of progress. I like how St Paul of Tarsus puts it in his letters recorded in the Bible

“Forgetting what lies behind, I press on”

I know a lot of people who will always talk about what they achieved in 1995 but would never point at what they were able to do presently. The only reason your past matters to you is because you need to know what you haven’t done by knowing what you have done.

If you are already driving your way to destiny, it is time to focus on where you are going. If you are yet to decide your destination, it is time to reconsider if it’s a high jump or a low jump. Sometimes, we have to slow down and sometimes we have to speed up. Its all left for you to decide where you are and where you need to get to.

3. Evaluate what you have and what you need.

Some people do not look at their fuel gauge when driving and then they do not know when to brake, turn into a fuel station and refuel. Sometimes we embark on a certain journey truly not knowing how much fuel it would take and that’s why we have the option of stopping by a station to refuel or recharge. Sometimes, we have to refuel our own bodies too by eating good food.

Perhaps what you are lacking is a good relationship, perhaps you are lacking ideas, perhaps you do not have enough funds, you must recognise these needs and work towards getting them. There are journeys you can’t go alone, you need a partner. You may need to slow down, put a pause on your journey and carefully select a mate who can travel with you. It could be people who can partner with you in your business or just a friend who can always motivate you.

What you have at the moment may never be enough to build that lasting success, you may be lacking tools. In Nigeria, some people believe that once you aren’t doing well, your “village people” are bewitching you. The truth is that what we often refer to as village people is lack of ideas, support, tools and money. There are doors you can’t open yourself, there are places you can’t enter on your own and there are provisions you can’t access just like that.

When you evaluate what you have and see what you are lacking, you can position yourself to lay hold on them and chart a way for success. I love how Jesus said it in the Bible

“Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it?”

4. Hold on to your map

I love travelling with Google map, I love going to places I’ve never been before with the map. I remember one of the days I missed a turn, the map had to reroute and show me another path to follow since I’ve missed the first turn. I missed it but there was a chance to find another path and connect back to the route.

Many people do not hold on to the map, they don’t know when they have missed it and they bump into unexpected failures. Just because you have been speeding in the wrong direction doesn’t mean you should continue speeding. The more you speed, the chances that you will exhaust your resources doing the wrong thing and the more you are making it difficult to turn back to the right part.

The worst thing that will happen to a man is when he refuses to accept his mistakes and correct them. In the journey of destiny, you must be willing to accept your mistakes, you must be willing to make corrections and you shouldn’t let pride rob you of your chances and make the right decisions.

Holy on to your map, when you miss it, reroute and have a u-turn back into the path of destiny.

5. Be sustained by patience.

Everyone wants to hit a jackpot, that’s fine. We all want to live a good life and access all the luxury we can lay our hands on. However, patience is a great virtue that is lacking from most of us. All the great men in the world today reaped greatly of this virtue.

There are investments you won’t have returns quickly, there are ideas that requires patience to be established and their businesses that can only grow on the foundation of patience. Don’t fly while you should be driving, don’t run while you should be walking. Take it one step at a time and be sure to get there.

6. Stay on your lane and keep moving

On your journey to success, you’ll definitely encounter distractions. Some distractions may come as business opportunities and some may come as discouragements but you don’t have to pause your journey just because found something to admire in a signpost or just because you’ve found a nice eatery by the roadside.

Consistency means that you need to keep moving, it doesn’t necessarily mean you should increase in speed, it means you should keep your foot on your pedals with hands on your steering and gear.

To keep moving includes developing the willingness to learn new stuff and employ innovative ideas.

We believe these tips will go a long way in helping you build lasting success. Let me know which point spoke best to you.
