Every day we wake up to the increasing counts and new cases of COVID-19, the novel Coronavirus that started in Wuhan, China. The bigger issue is not COVID-19, the bigger issue is your belief system, your response to these events and how much you trust God. I have written this in the past, I can’t overemphasize it because we need a constant reminder of the same.
God is not evil, men can be evil but not God. God can upturn or use evil men but God is not evil. Just imagine when Judas thought he was hurting Jesus, his evil nature was being used by God to fulfil a greater purpose. Just imagine when the siblings of Joseph were planning evil for him, they never knew that our loving God was using their own hate to fulfil his purpose.
When the Bible says “all things work for our good to them who love God” it wasn’t a far fetched truth! It is the absolute truth! All things work for our good and this should be the anchor of our response to any situation. COVID-19 is just one out of all things and you can’t beat God’s word to it, it will work for your good.
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” – Romans 8:28 NIV
COVID-19 may be a pandemic but God’s only involvement in this is his workings for your own good. Isn’t it so encouraging?
In trying to make sense out of the whole mess, it is still imperative to be in remembrance of God’s faithfulness. Remember that God doesn’t cause sickness or disease to draw people to himself. God is too holy and pure to cause evil but when evil happens, God can use it for our good!
All over the world, businesses are closing down, activities are shutting down, the economy seems to be on a long slope. People are asking questions, they are trying to figure out where God is in all of this. Yes, it wasn’t God who closed down our business centres, it wasn’t God who stopped the Olympics, it wasn’t God who locked us out. It wasn’t God who caused the deaths.
Yet, God gives us a message out of every mess even as he is not the one who messed us up. God’s message out of every mess is always that of love, hope and of course correction! God tells us “it is true you got yourself messed up, but I am here for you!” “It is true the world is laughing at you, but I am here to make you smile again.” “Weeping may endure for a night but joy comes in the morning!”
Let me tell you one truth, Jesus is our morning, we’ve come out of the night! We have been translated from darkness into God’s marvellous light and therefore we are joyful at all times, we make good news out of every bad news! The Israelites in Goshen were not affected by any pestilence that happened in Egypt and you will not be affected by any pestilence that happens in the world because Jesus is our dwelling place.
“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” – 1 Peter 2:9 NIV
We are in God’s light! He is not good at wrecking us, he is good at saving us! He is mighty to save and that’s period!
God will not make you sick or poor to draw your attention to him, but he can use that current situation to draw your attention. Note the difference. He doesn’t cause it but he can use it. What is your disposition at this time? What are you sharing? Fear or faith?
What you share will be influenced by what occupies your heart. Stay in the place of the word, believe the word and nothing else! Stop entertaining fear, stop giving room for anything that steals your peace. Guard your heart jealously because some issue you experience is a manifestation of what you let into your heart.
I am in my morning and therefore I rejoice! I am in the place of God’s word and therefore I live above fear! The pestilence will not come near me, not because I am too careful but because I am located in Christ Jesus!
Regardless of what happens, I am certain of my security in Christ. This is the hope that we have, that Christ is in us. What more is better news than this? As each day brings us closer to the end of the age, as each occurrence speaks loudly that the end is near, we are not perturbed because we know that those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved but abides forever! (Psalms 125:1)
You abide forever, you can’t be rooted out! You are located in Christ. If there is anything like a spiritual address, Jesus is my spiritual address because it is in him that I am found.
I triumph and that is my confession!
I speak faith because I see Grace! What are you seeing? What are you speaking?
