“He who comes from above (heaven) is (far) above all (others); he who comes from the earth belongs to the earth, and talks the language of earth (his words are from earthly standpoint). He Who comes from heaven is (far) above all others (far superior to all others in prominence and in excellence)” – John 3:31 AMP
Although Jesus was speaking about himself in the above verse, the new creature also possesses such qualities he mentioned. The reason is that we have been born of God the moment we got born again. The same word “this is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased” applies to us today! Jesus is the model of God’s sons who we have become. The Bible says in John 1:12
“But as many as received him, to them gave he the power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name”.
Do you see that? If you have received Jesus (by believing in him), you aren’t just saved, you have also been given the power that makes you a child of God just as Jesus was referred to as the Son of God. The believer in Christ Jesus doesn’t just have the kind of life God has, he has the life of God in him. This is the life the word talks about in John 3:16, it is a life without beginning nor end. By the virtue of who you have become, you are not just from above, you are the offspring of God, born of incorruptible seed. This agrees with the words of Peter who wrote
“Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.”- 1 Peter 1:23
You are born of God’s word and if God’s word is perfect, you were born from a perfect lineage, no longer the earthly lineage of your parents but that of God! Another thing we understand of being born of the incorruptible seed is that the system that produced the new you is perfect, perfect in the sense that if the word says you are righteous, you are righteous! No argument! You aren’t just righteous, you are righteous forever just as God’s word lives and abides forever.
Back to the Genesis story, when Adam obeyed Satan by eating of the tree God has commanded man not to eat of, the natural world became subject to the influence and systems of Satan. God handed the world over to the man, the man was supposed to be the highest authority on this earth but by obeying Satan, man became loyal to the enemy of God. What Jesus came to do was not to save the earth, to stop volcanoes, to stop earthquakes and fix the decay of the ozone layer, Jesus came to save man! After an appointment time as revealed in the book of Revelation, there will be a new universe. Note that the word “new heaven and earth” means “new universe” ie the earth and its sky. (Refer to Hebrew manuscripts)
This present world is still greatly influenced by the devil, this is why sickness, disease, poverty, strife, contention and many other negativities thrive. Although we dominate this earth and live as those who have already overcome it in Christ Jesus, we aren’t of it anymore, we have been saved from it, we are only plunderers, plundering this earth for God, joining God in the business of reconciling men to Him. Jesus said
“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”- John 16:33
There may be tribulations here and there but Jesus assured us that he already overcame the world. It is good news for us because anything Jesus has overcome, we have also overcome. The one in us is greater than the one in this world. This world isn’t our inheritance in Christ, there will be a new universe where God is our light, where there will be no shadows of darkness. We belong in another kingdom, the kingdom of God and we are not second class citizens of God’s kingdom but first-class citizens running a colonial project on earth. No wonder it is said, “the kingdom of this world has become the kingdom of our God.”
We are on a mission here, to keep saving others out of darkness into God’s marvellous light. We have become entirely different, we are not earthly, we are part of divinity! We are indescribable and this is why we are called “new creatures”. Old things are deleted and non-existent and we have become new creatures, something that can’t be described with human words. The only word that fits the description of the new creature is Christ Jesus. That which is born of God is characterized by God, our spiritual gene and traits can only be traced to God. What cannot be found in God cannot be found in our Spirit!
We are Gods, not the God Almighty but we are part of the God-office and I say this with every sense of humility. God is not His name, it is His office and the believer is a part of that office! When we hear things like “the presidency says…” It doesn’t mean the president has spoken, it means that a statement has been made from the office of the president. The President and his cabinet make up the presidency and that is how we are members of God’s cabinet!
Glory to God!
Sometimes, we call God the “God of Gods” but God of Gods doesn’t mean that God is the ruler of idols, idols are inconsequential, they are products of men and they are lifeless. They don’t qualify as toys talk more of being gods. God of Gods means that he is also Lord over us who are Gods!
Let me tell you how much of God we are. We aren’t just benefactors of what Christ has done, it would have still been nice if we just got saved and nothing more. Like the prodigal son affirmed, based on merit, we do not even qualify to be servants but … We are co-heirs with Christ. Another word is that we are equal-heirs with Christ based on Christ’s own merit. The Bible affirms this in 1 Corinthians 6:17
“But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.”
Somewhere else, the Bible says
“And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.”- Romans 8:17
Do you see that? We are partakers of both his suffering and his glory! What is due to him is due to us, God sees us exactly like Jesus and has placed us in the place of Christ. This is why we are seated in heavenly places with Christ! Jesus is the express image of God to us and he is the image of the new man before God. Where God sees man, we see Jesus. This is God’s own way of reconciling men with himself.
In 1 Peter 2:9, we are called “a chosen generation, peculiar people, priests from the royal line…” We are a generation of God, we trace our line to God and not to Adam because we are born of God. As God’s generation, we are genetically made of God in the Spirit, no wonder we have his character in our Spirit. It is this character that the Bible calls the fruit of the Spirit. Just as children will inherit traits from their parents, we’ve got the character of God in our Spirit for it is our Spirit that is born of him. We aren’t just conquerors, we are the definition of conquering.
Because we aren’t made of this earth anymore though we are in an earthly body, we live above earthly weaknesses, we manifest the special character of God even when it is not pleasing to the earthly flesh. We manifest the beauty and power of God, we have divine virtues. This is why we must subject our flesh to live in obedience to our Spirit, the real us is the Spirit and not the flesh. In the flesh, we keep learning who we are by looking at the word of God, we keep renewing our mind using God’s word so that the character of Christ which is available in our Spirit can be formed in our flesh. As we stay in the place of the word, what we are in the Spirit begins to manifest in the flesh to some degree. This is why Paul wrote to the Galatians
“My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you”- Galatians 4:19
The Galatians weren’t manifesting the character of the Spirit to the degree that Paul expected and he kept travailing for them so that they grow in the place of the word and act out what is already in their Spirit. This is why the Bible says
“Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.”- Philippians 2:12-13
Do you see that? It is God who works in us both to will and to do but we are the ones who bring it to visibility! We have the ability to be good, we have a perfect Spirit, we are holy on the inside and therefore we must let the world see the character of Christ through us. We aren’t just blessed, we are blessings and we dispense blessings. We are changing lives in all ramifications, we spread God’s love and bring joy to souls. This is who we are, this is what we have been designed for. We were created in Christ Jesus for God-work and not just “good works”.
Until Jesus comes again, we are God’s way of functioning on earth, we are made of God, we are from above! Walk in this consciousness.
