To worship God is to serve him. Service to God is a physical expression of reverence. I wonder which type of man will love a woman and not want to spend his last card and time in proving it… At least, I know the majority of men does that. Money plus time proves love, money minus time doesn’t. Our salvation is not dependent on our love for God but the level of commitment we are willing to give is dependent on it.
Service is more audible than prayers, don’t let anyone talk you out from service to God. Singing “Lord I love you” a thousand time doesn’t indicate love for God, it is in service that love is shown!
Text messages, Facebook announcement or even public proposal with knees on the ground doesn’t indicate love, they are very vocal but until there is a voluntary commitment to someone, love has not been proven. Many times we gather as believers, enjoy music, watch drama, laugh together and say we are only here to worship. Yes, fellowship is beautiful and more beautiful is service to God. You can’t separate service from fellowship, if you do that, you’re just a visitor.
The quality of your worship is shown in the quality of your service to God. Worship is beyond songs, songs are instruments of expression but the song in itself isn’t enough. Sometimes we tell people we love them just because we feel emotional, we talk about love when a certain song strikes a chord in our hearts but love dwells beyond the confines of emotions, love stays even where emotions fail! Love is a decision expressed in absolute commitment. It is in our love walk with God that we worship him. Anything that we do as an expression of love to God is worship.
No matter how much you pray, it doesn’t take the place of service, no matter how much you know and how much you study, it doesn’t take the place of service! Service is your commitment to the expansion project of God. People may know you as a pious man who wakes up every night to pray, you may have become so popular for your prayers but when you only pray, your worship lacks merit. God will commit more in the hands of a loyal servant who knows so little than in the hands of a learned elite who does nothing.
Personally, how much one prays doesn’t so much indicate love for God, people may pray because they are being outweighed by their problems but in service, we are proving that our personal problems cannot outweigh our love for God! Every man has issues that they are battling with, those who serve regardless are simply placing the kingdom above their problems. The same principle of seeking the kingdom first applies in service. Serve the Kingdom first! When we are ready to serve, this becomes what we pray for and what we yearn for all the times, an opportunity to serve!
It is true that you cannot outdo God in love, you cannot love God much more than he loves you, your love for God doesn’t make him better and your less commitment to him doesn’t make him less the God that he is. However, service to God makes you better. It empowers you to live a more fulfilled life. The satisfaction of a believer should not be in how much money he made, how much cars he bought, how much inventories he made; as awesome as all of these are, our fulfilment as believers stems from how much we were able to do in and for the kingdom!
God cannot entrust some degree of a task to you when you are not committed in service to him. It is in service that we fulfil certain purposes. He keeps loving you but he can’t trust you with responsibilities when you are not ready to serve. As awesome as it is to give money for the kingdom, service in the kingdom is the best way to show appreciation for God’s love! When we give as grateful people, we give in the place of service. Giving doesn’t replace service, we give, not to pay off our roles but as part of our roles! We give money and we also give our time and our strength! We give our all! In the package of service, giving is inclusive.
The Bible says “let everything that has breath praise the Lord!” As awesome as shouting, clapping and dancing are, it only makes sense when we clap, shout, sing and dance in the place of service! We have breath so that we can worship God here on earth, as long as we still have breath in us, we ought to serve. As you are serving the Lord, you are dancing, as you you are serving, you are singing! This is the real thanksgiving!
Now, when we talk about service, what do we mean? To serve God is to be part and parcel of what God is doing on earth. Many of us are beneficiaries but we are not partners! To serve God is to migrate from being a beneficiary to also being a partner of what he is doing! We have been given the ministry of reconciliation, we are ministers in this kingdom and the duty of ministers is to serve the purpose for which we have bee called. The Bible says
“And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to him.” – 2 Corinthians 5:18 NLT
We have a task now!
For example, a local assembly is a place where believers are taught and trained to growth. It is not moral to belong to a local assembly and not serve, it is abnormal when the majority of people in Church aren’t serving. Services encourage your Pastors and leaders, service helps the flow of things in the assembly, service makes it much easier for others to receive of the word of God, service aids in the growth of the assembly and further increases the level of impact the Church makes, services relieves many responsibilities off one person! In serving, you are saying to God “I can’t pay you Lord but this is the much I can do!” God didn’t just ask us to serve, we were empowered and gifted for service. The reason you were blessed with certain gifts of the Spirit is for service in the kingdom. The Bible says
“There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all. A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other.” – 1 Corinthians 12:4, 7 NLT
Don’t wait till you become a Pastor to serve, don’t wait till you have enough money to be able to get committed in the kingdom! Don’t venture into bigger roles when you’ve not gotten used to the smaller roles. We all want to play the major roles but you can start by encouraging other believers, checking up on them when their commitment is wavering, joining a department and all of that.
On a greater and even more important scale of preference, you serve God ultimately when you commit yourself to preach the gospel, extending hands to help the less privileged, showing love to your neighbours including your enemies, following up younger believers and teaching them the word of God. By younger, I mean those who haven’t so grown. Your commitment can stir up a hunger in their hearts. Reaching out to souls extends to using our social media pages for the purpose of the kingdom, it isn’t less important and it shouldn’t be preferred below other things!
When you serve in the little, God gives you strength for the much. Not as though you don’t have that strength already but you grow in capacity! Whatever makes a child grow is inside the body of the child. When the child is feeding well, the body is being fueled and nurtured into growth. Everything you need from God is in you already and there are degrees of these things that only develops in the place of prayer, some develop in the place of study and others develop in the place of service.
God can only entrust huge responsibility on people who are sold out and not on people whose comfort are a priority! I say it again, service doesn’t get God to love you more, he can’t love you less, God doesn’t have the ability to love you any less but God will never entrust in the hands of a man who isn’t sold out the greater responsibility of handling the scared offices in the kingdom that only servants qualify for.
In God’s kingdom on earth, there are only two categories of persons… Servants and babies. Babies don’t take responsibilities, they want to be served all the time and all they want is about their comfort! They don’t want vegetables, they don’t want fibres, they can’t eat bones too and they prefer just a little milk and so much sugar!
The gift of God is without repentance but there are calls of God that can only be answered by those who are sold out! Service to God shouldn’t be done out of pressure but with gladness. The Bible says
“Serve the Lord with gladness; Come before Him with joyful singing.” – Psalms 100:2 NASB
“And whoever wishes to be first among you shall be your slave; just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” – Matthew 20:27-28 NASB
