Do you know that when you look up in the sky at night, what you are seeing isn’t the present condition of the sky? Do you know that the lightning strikes you see happened before you saw it? Do you know that thunder is the sound of lightning but you hear it only after seeing the lightning? The reason is that light travels and sometimes, before it gets to us, some things have already changed and sound travels slower than light which makes us hear the sound of thunder only after the lightening even though they were released the same time. We live in the yesterday of light.
Light is the fastest thing on earth but its fastness isn’t finite. When we look at the stars, we are seeing it’s past and even if it were to be dead, we will see it’s light for many more years even as the star itself isn’t shining. If a star was to be dead, we still see them shining simply because the lights they emitted are only getting to us now, we are only seeing their past and not their present. To look into the past, look at the stars. The sun is the only star that is very much closer to the earth, it is one of the very small stars anyway and it’s light reaches us faster because it is closest to us.
It takes the light of the sun eight minutes to reach the earth which means that when we look at the sun, we are looking at eight minutes ago. The next star closest to us after the sun is Alpha Centuria triple-star system and it takes more than four years for it’s light to reach the Earth. This means that when we are looking at some stars, we are only looking at five years ago or more. The majority of the stars we see at night is like looking into 10 millennia ago.
When the Bible said a thousand years is like a day in God’s eyes, it wasn’t a play of words. God sees the stars as it is, God dwells outside time and while we are living in the past, God is seeing the present, there is no difference between yesterday and today to God because he made time and knows everything in it. This is why God would say “I have loved you with an everlasting love” (Jeremiah 31:3) and we are singing “new every morning is thy love”. His love has already been giving but it is new to us not to him.
Some things we keep asking God for are things He has already done (Ephesians 1:3). It’s just that we don’t know it has been done, we are yet to see and lay hold of them. As we grow, we realize these things and we stop begging or even asking for them but we start thanking Him for them. Faith means laying hold on what God has made available even when the manifestation hasn’t come to us. Faith means starting into the today of God. It is like going beyond the eight minutes ago of the sun, it is like going beyond four years ago or some stars! Faith is faster than the speed of light, the speed of faith is finite!
Faith is not a prediction, it is not like trying to figure out how the sun is at the moment or how the stars are at the moment, it is not like trying to do some mathematical calculations to find answers as regards the current situation of things that our eyes cannot decide it’s present realities. Faith simply means shutting down our eyes (2 Timothy 3:15) and seeing things with the eyes of faith! As Christians, we need not borrow the eyes of God, we have his eyes!
Christ is in us, we have the Holy Spirit in us (1 Corinthians 6:19) which is the Spirit of God! Many prophets who spoke of what was to come were all looking into the now! They called it tomorrow but it was the now! When they spoke of things that were to come even when they couldn’t understand it, they were looking at the today of God! Not as though God is bound by today or tomorrow but that’s the best word we can use as we are limited in words. To see the NOW requires revelation! While we were hearing “I will do a new thing!” It was already done!
One thousand years is like a day to God because they are past tense to him and He isn’t time-bound. The Bible says he dwells in unapproachable light (1 Timothy 6:16), while we may be seeing the yesterday of light, God dwells in the now of that light! Do you know why sorcerers often use the stars and sun to read the past or try to see into the future? It is because of this mystery of light! They often rely on stars and the information they can get out of it but we rely on God!
If we can look at the stars for the past, we can look up to God for the NOW! You can’t be surprised anymore by a movie you’ve finished watching talk more of when you wrote it. We are living in the script of God and the difference is that God gave his characters the ability to make choices. The natural man lives in the yesterday but the Spiritual man can live in the NOW. For example, when people come running to Christ after preaching the gospel to them and they come saying “Lord Jesus, save me today. I receive your salvation.” They are keying into what has already happened, they were living in yesterday and they are keying into the NOW!
We pray for fire, we pray for a touch of God and his love, we even pray for his breath upon us. Many of us cry about these things, we ask in sincerity because it seems we aren’t seeing them. God sees our heart, He knows we are sincerely ignorant and He keeps bringing us to a place of knowing more and more, what He has given to us. However, all these things that we are asking for have been given, they are not gifts that are yet to be wrapped up for us, they are gifts stocked up in our stores and we are yet to unwrap them. It’s like having money in your account without knowing simply because you’ve not checked the bank alert that came into your email so many years ago! The money is there but you aren’t withdrawing because you don’t know!
It was in this regard that Paul prayed “… The eyes of your understanding being enlightened that you may KNOW…” (Ephesians 1:18) The issues aren’t that God hasn’t given but that we don’t know. We don’t see it because we don’t know, we don’t experience it because we aren’t walking in them yet. We are simply living in yesterday and we don’t know what is available today. When I find myself among brethren who are still begging for what I know we’ve received, I don’t despise them, I just thank God and pray for their hunger to be satisfied through knowing the riches of our inheritance in Christ Jesus.
We sing it in songs, asking God to send down His fire but truth is that since that fire came, it never went back to God. We cry for more anointing but the presence of Christ in us means that we have all of the anointing God ever has to give but we operate it only according to the measure of our discovery. This means, the more we know, the more we are likely to operate in it. A smartphone remains just for dialling numbers and sending text messages when we don’t know there are much more we can do with it. Until you know it, you may not see it. Knowledge brings direction.
I see brethren who get tired of just believing and talking it, they criticize those who preach the word but have not raised the dead, they say it is better seen than told, they say the action is better than words. As true as it may seem, I believe that both are great and both must go together. How could people know when it is not communicated? The more we grow in the truth of God’s word, the more we’re likely to operate in its diverse dimensions. It wasn’t by healing the sick that Peter got the first three thousand plus more saved, it was by speaking the word of God to them.
The Gospel is God’s only means of getting us saved today. People must hear it, believe it and then it becomes what they have. It is all about knowing and knowing more. Jesus said, “you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free” (John 8:32). This means that the amount of truth we know is directly proportional to the height of freedom we can experience. God’s word is the way to live in the today of God! God’s word is like our credit alert! To see beyond time, beyond the limits of our eyes, we can hold on to the word of God! To operate in those things, we must believe the word and act on it!
