Whenever you enter poor religious communities, the devil feature so much in many of their discussions as they believe the devil is instrumental to their poverty, they talk about him in their teachings, prayers and everyday life. They would even credit the devil for things as common as sleep paralysis. But is Christianity a war between light and darkness? No, Christianity is salvation from darkness, it is victory over the world and the indwelling of the Spirit of God in man. The Bible says
“But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.” – 1 Peter 2:9 NLT
CHRISTIANITY IS VICTORY NOT BATTLES
Christianity is the take over of man by God through Christ Jesus. Christianity is the result of God’s proposal of marriage to the man. To see Christianity as a war between light and darkness is to reduce the efficacy of what Jesus has done in our minds. Christianity is rather a victory over darkness!
Christianity is all about receiving what Jesus has done and walking in the reality of it. The Bible tells us that Jesus made a public show of the enemy! The Bible says concerning this
“In this way, he disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross.” – Colossians 2:15 NLT
DEVIL WAS DEFEATED, PAST TENSE!
The enemy was humiliated on the cross and he was strip off his powers! Unfortunately, we create strong roles and put the devil into a space too big for him. Why believe that the devil is holding your destiny? Is your destiny too light weighted for the devil to carry? Just in case you have forgotten, the Bible says you were bought with a price and the life you live now doesn’t belong to you but God! It wasn’t just any price but a high price! God placed a value as high as the value of Himself on you.
“For God bought you with a high price. So you must honour God with your body.” – 1 Corinthians 6:20 NLT
What does this mean? It means your purpose has God in the equation and when God is the designer and orchestrator of your purpose, the devil cannot be a match! Why credit the devil with what is within your powers? You are the one who can stop yourself and not the devil. God said
“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” – Jeremiah 29:11 NLT
YOU BELONG TO GOD, PRESENT CONTINUOS!
God didn’t just have plans for you, he knew the plans he had! He knew the audacious ability of his plans, it wasn’t a trial and error but a precise plan! The fulfilment of God’s plan is Jesus! Salvation has always been God’s plan for man! The devil couldn’t alter God’s plan, and he can’t alter the effectiveness of this plan in your life.
You are the one who can alter God’s plans for your life! Yes, God has plans for your life and not even your mistakes can alter it because He saw those mistakes while writing your script! The problem lies in your willingness to submit and walk with Him even in your weakness! The challenge isn’t the devil, he has been defeated, the challenge is you because you are the only one that can feed your mind! What you feed your mind is what it becomes.
Jesus didn’t defeat the devil to some extent and then left us with the rest of the battle. The defeat was complete and perfect, we were left with a finished devil. As a kid, I loved the movie “mortal combat”, especially the last where the voice would say “finish him!” Jesus finished the devil and left us with a defeated devil.
STICK TO THE WORD
We were never asked to engage satan in prayers. We were asked to resist him, how? The Bible says
“So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” – James 4:7 NLT
Humbling ourselves before God is how to resist the devil, resisting the devil doesn’t mean staging him in a midnight-fight, it means humbling ourselves before God. To be humble before God means to accept that we weren’t good on our own, that our goodness and victory is found in Him. It means to accept what His word has said concerning us.
By holding on to the word of God, all our victories are exercised. The Apostles never engaged in such prayers that we know today as “spiritual warfare”, spiritual warfare is not a prayer. We should follow Christianity modelled by Jesus and the Apostles. Yes, they cast demons away from sick unbelievers but we never saw such case when it comes to believers. We have been saved from darkness into God’s marvellous light. So many things we do in the name of warfare is not consistent with the written word of God. The Bible says
“Don’t you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives in you?” – 1 Corinthians 3:16 NLT
THE SPIRIT OF GOD LIVES IN YOU!
The Spirit of God lives in you and therefore the devil can’t be in you at the same time! God’s Spirit isn’t planning to go on vacation, it is not in His ability to leave a believer. God is bound by His own words which assured us that He will never leave us nor forsake us.
It is an error therefore as a believer, to start seeking deliverance from demons. Demons can’t possess a believer and God can’t share your body demons, they can’t cohabit. Wherever God’s presence is, the enemy gives way. Unfortunately, some people don’t know this! No wonder Paul started with “do you realize?”
We always give credit to the devil for even the things he has no power to do. What so many of us seek deliverance from is what government policies caused, some are what our unhealthy decisions caused. The word salvation is gotten from the Greek word “Sozo” and “Soteria” which also means “salvation, deliverance, liberty”.
SALVATION IS DELIVERANCE
Salvation is deliverance and when we are saved, we need to keep growing in the knowledge of the word so that we can’t give in to the deceptions of the devil. It is by the knowledge that we resist the devil! This is why the Bible recommends
“…let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” – Romans 12:2 NLT
SPIRITUAL WARFARE IS NOT A PRAYER
Spiritual warfare is a mindset and not prayer! When you start thinking right and in the direction of the victory you have, you are learning to know and walk in God’s will for you! Your mind is what needs changing. Transformation can only happen when one has a change of mindset and not by praying against the devil every midnight.
The devil only tries to gets to our mind through our thoughts, but when we give every space to God’s word, the devil has no place. One of the deceptions of the devil is making believers think “they need deliverance” when they are delivered already. Only ignorant people will start discussing the devil in the face of challenges. However, if you have been saved, you have been delivered. The Bible says
“Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armour so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle, you will still be standing firm.” – Ephesians 6:13 NLT
How do we put on this armour? What does the whole armour mean? Watch out for “THE ARMOR” for more understanding.
