“I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.” – Philippians 4:12
Nobody wants to live a life of lack and suffering. Nobody prays to ever need something and not get to afford it. Being able to afford what we want saves us from lots of stress and issues, sometimes it even keeps us momentarily satisfied but the big truth is this; we may not always access every single thing we need and there are times when we may not have an abundance. It doesn’t change anything about us and we shouldn’t feel as though life is miserable simply because we see ourselves in needs we can’t meet. Get this:
1. You can be in need and you can have plenty.
2. Being content is important in any situation.
As much as everyone wants a smooth life, we must learn to live in contentment when we do not get what we want. Paul didn’t say being a Christian will save us from the stress of life, he rather said he knows how it feels to be in need and also be in plenty. He experienced the two and he could tell how awesome the feeling of having plenty is but he has also learnt the secret of living in contentment in every situation.
POINT TO NOTE
As much as we know that God’s desire for us is to live in good health and abundance, God also wants us to live in contentment. Not being able to afford certain things aren’t indications that something is wrong with us. You may have enough, you may not have enough! You may be well fed today and you may be hungry tomorrow. Your approach to life should be that of contentment. It is a secret that you must learn and live by. As much as you want to live in plenty, be contented when there is lack. Being content is a great way to express our trust in God.

My father and my God, I make a decision today to be content whether I have plenty or little. I am learning to trust you more even in the days when it doesn’t look like an option.
