“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” – 1 Corinthians 10:13

Have you ever seen yourself in a state where it appears you are the only one going through tough times? Have you seen yourself in the midst of people who always appear happy and satisfied while you feel down and feel like the one odd person out? Have you ever come to the social media to see so many friends posting amazing pictures and you feel their experiences are as great as their smiles and you are suffering alone? You’ve got to understand something.

1. Everything you have ever experienced and will experience is common.

2. If you are tempted of something, it is an indication that you are greater than it!

3. Always trust God for a way out.

Jesus was tempted too and many times it is in the times of hardship that temptation usually comes, offering us itself as a way of escape but it is important to also know that several people have faced it and overcame it. Jesus was tempted with bread when He was hungry, it would have still made some sense if Jesus turned stone into bread but Jesus knew He was greater than whatever He is being tempted with. The same Jesus was able to multiply bread and feed the five thousand later on!

The transcendent way of overcoming temptation is viewing it as something not unique to you alone and something you are greater than. Our text says God provides us with a way out of temptation and the ultimate way He had provided for us is His words and the direction of the Holy Spirit in our hearts. When temptation comes, exercise restraint, trusting that many people have always overcome it and you too can.

“I am greater than any temptation that comes my way and I walk over any trials and temptations triumphantly as God has granted me victory over them. Hallelujah!”

Thank you, precious Lord, for granting me victory over temptations even before they come my way. I will keep trusting you every day knowing that you aren’t responsible for those temptations but you always provide a way out.
