“Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honour.” – Romans 12:10
We are in a world of love-seekers, a world where everyone is seeking to receive love, seeking to receive care and support but truly thinking less of how much love to give. God never designed man to walk alone and when He said it wasn’t good for man to be alone, He wasn’t just talking about marriage, He was also talking about community. A community can only thrive when it is based on love. Right where you are, you can make a community of love out of your office colleagues, your neighbours at the family house and just anywhere you find yourself. Get this:
1. Develop positive affection for others
2. Don’t think of what to receive but what to give
3. Do not relent in showing love
Always think of outperforming others in love, don’t just think of how much love you are receiving from them, don’t think about how they rejected you and saw no future in you. The best pay for any wrong is love and the best pay for one good turn is still love. By loving others even more than they have loved you, you are serving the Lord. Don’t just seek for honour, honour others.
POINT TO NOTE
“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or empty pride, but in humility consider others more important than yourselves.” – Philippians 2:3
Love does not seek self, it seeks others! This often appears like a hard thing to do; to be more concerned about others than we are about ourselves but it is not because we have the Spirit of God in us helping us to outdo others in love. To love others more than you love yourself means to love others even when they don’t love, to help others even when they don’t help you. You aren’t allowing what they did to you determine how you treat them.
“I am a product of love and therefore I can only give love. From now, I choose to love more!”
Precious Lord, may I always be reminded anytime my flesh seems to outweigh my mind that love is the greatest. Thank you, Lord, for the outpour of love in my heart.
