“A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity” – Proverbs 17:17
The man was never designed to thrive in a place of solitude. While withdrawing from people could be necessary for a while, it is not God’s desire that you stay all to yourself and out of touch with others. We were created in God’s image and God desires friendship with man which means you too ought to desire friendship. There are obviously things you cannot do when you walk devoid of friendship. People say if you must fly like an eagle, you must learn to fly alone but that is not how God wants you to function. The Bible says in Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 that two achieves a lot more than one. Understand this:
1. A brother may be there only in troubled times.
2. True friends stay at all times.
There is a difference between being family and being friends. It is true that a brother can also be a friend and it is true that having a family isn’t enough. A brother may surface in the times of great distress, sometimes it isn’t just because of you but because the family name has to be saved but a true friend is like a soul you have a covenant with, to stay right there with you at all times. Sometimes, we get rejected by people, we get betrayed and we get disappointed but we all need that friend who can offer us their shoulders to cry on even if they don’t have a solution.
POINT TO NOTE
You ought to be intentional about friendship and don’t let fate bring you into any kind of relationship. The Bible says concerning friendship in Ecclesiastes 4:10 “If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.” You don’t just make friends for yourself, you also make friends so that you can offer them yourself. It is miserable to live a life of absolute solitude where after you have exhausted your strength, there is no one else to help you.
“I am intentional about meeting the right people and giving them a place in my life to help me walk smoothly on earth as I live to God’s glory.”
Precious Jesus, I have a friend in you and I know you are always there to guide me. May others find your friendliness in me. Amen
