“Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.”
~ Ephesians 6:4
Many times it is easy to maltreat children all in the name of disciplining them. It is always easy to quote “children obey your parents” to them and skip the timely instruction parents should take heed to. Sometimes, parents beat their children just because they are angry with those children and therefore want to satisfy their anger on those children but this is against God’s will. Being an adult doesn’t give you the right to treat children the way you want, treat them in the way God would have you treat them.
1. Being a parent gives you no right to provoke your children.
2. Raise your kids in God’s discipline and instructions.
We must understand that children too have emotions and can be saddened. The rights of kids should be respected even as we train them up in the way of the Lord. The kind of discipline God wants us to give to our children is His own discipline using His instructions. When you raise children in the ways of the Lord, they will grow knowing that way alone.
POINT TO NOTE
Every parent has a responsibility to raise their kids in God’s way and we can only do that by loving our children and by inculcating the value systems of God in them. This means we will train our children to respect one another regardless of gender, colour, ethnicity and so on. We will also train them in righteousness and sound mind. We should correct them in love rather than punish them in anger.
“I have a commitment to mentoring my younger ones with God’s discipline and instructions rather than my own mere logical thinking or traditions of men.”
Thank you, Lord, for reminding me that your instruction is complete enough to raise my younger ones to your glory. Help me to raise them the way you will have me do it. Amen
