“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.” ~ 2 Corinthians 1:3-5
God is not just another mean God who lacks emotions and doesn’t know how we feel when we experience grief and distress. We hear a lot of people say that God doesn’t put our emotions into consideration but we sure do know that God loves us and feels for us when things aren’t okay. Although God has made certain things ready for us and wants us to just lay hold on them rather than shedding tears in the place of prayers, God is very much concerned about us. Whether you are ignorant of what God has given you or not, God is concerned about you. Get this:
- God is the father of compassion
- God comforts us in all troubles
- Just like God, we can comfort others
To be comforted means to be eased of grief or to have an improve in our mood or get a sense of physical well-being restored. When the Bible talks about God being our comforter, it doesn’t just talk about it in a spiritual sense but also in the physical sense. God has already given us His comfort in His word and therefore each time we go through God’s word for us we receive the words of comfort released from Him. God doesn’t just want us to enjoy the comfort that comes from His word, He wants us to also extend this comfort to others. We don’t just comfort others by telling them words but also by giving them substances.
POINT TO NOTE
No matter what it is we are facing, we must always know that God is the father of compassion who comforts us in all troubles. It is important to note that God doesn’t comfort us in some troubles but in all of them! The Psalmist wrote in Psalm 46:1-2 “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea.” No matter the height of the challenge, fear is not an option, trust in God should be the only option.
“I am comforted of the Lord at all times and I will comfort others in this regard.”
Thank you, Lord, for being my ever-present help in my times of need. May I always find the strength to extend your comfort to others. Amen.
