“Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.” ~ Proverbs 31:30
Have you ever find yourself in the middle of crossroads where you’d have just one choice to make between several options? It is not like the buffet where you pick from as several options as available until your taste and satisfaction are met. When you just have between attractively beautiful things or God to choose from what is your disposition at those moments? There are times you will have to choose between God or your job, between human traditions or God’s word and between logical human suggestions or what God’s word has said. When the Bible talks about “fear of God”, it means reverence and honour for God above every other thing. Get this:
- There are so many fascinating options in life that are mere deception.
- Things that are merely beautiful at sight may not stand the test of time.
- Our glory lies in our total submission to God.
Far from just the analogy of a woman who looks charming and beautiful but has no reverence for God, there are so many things about our cultures that may look charming but God isn’t revered in it. We are in the days where fornication, crimes, abortion, homosexualism and so many more seem to be gaining support and people seem to think it is beautiful but these things will not just never last, it doesn’t reverence God and it can only lead to more problems. As much as we love everyone and don’t deny their rights because of their sexuality, we need not endorse what doesn’t revere God. God does not strike down anyone who doesn’t revere Him but such persons thread away from God and expose themselves to the negativity embedded in those wrong decisions they make.
POINT TO NOTE
That it is generally acceptable doesn’t make it a choice for you. Choose your own standard of living and never go for those options that undermine the reality of God. The same way it is to go for a woman just because she looks charming and beautiful while her heart is full of darkness is the way it is to go for certain options of life just because it is the trend and generally accepted view. When that charm and beauty fades away, you would realize how far you have gone in the wrong but may just have lost nearly everything.
“I live a life that God-glorifying. I choose not to conform to cultures, traditions and ways of life that don’t revere God.”
Help me Lord to always discern when the decisions I am about making isn’t that which you want for me. Help me to walk always in the path of your word.
