“Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.”
~ 1 John 3:18
Pastor Nicky Gumbel made a profound statement in 2014 saying “the church should be famous for its love!” It is very easy to talk about love or to express it with words. It takes nothing to tell people that you love them and it also takes nothing to tell God that you can die for Him! It is very easy to spot people crying and professing their love for God in Church while songs are ongoing. We get people send us a text and end it with “I love you!” But so many people get past the verbal expression of love and in the spiritual realm, love is not true when said, it becomes true when acted. Get this:
1. Words may say love but it doesn’t show love.
2. Real love is visible and active.
3. True love is crowned with honesty.
God didn’t stop at telling us how much He loves us; He showed it in a great sacrificial way. The Bible says God gave Jesus because He loved us. A thousand words of “I love you” is very inferior to just a single act of love. Many people also act love with generosity and care but have other motives in their heart. It is easy to get a man show care to a woman but sometimes with a motive of getting sex in return! People often support what they want to gain from and sometimes they mistake their actions based on the selfish interest for acts of love.
POINT TO NOTE
In the world of so much fear and so much hatred, you can stand out as light by being active in loving! Don’t just pity the poor; help them from the genuineness of heart. Don’t just say you love people who dislike you, also act it out. When love becomes your habit, you live fulfilled! Be famous for love.
“All through my life, I choose to walk in love. My response to hate, anger, rejections and persecution is love. As much as God’s love has been shed abroad in my heart, I will show it forth indeed.”
Thank, precious Lord, for your word. You have reminded me again that love isn’t just what I say but what I do. By your power at work in me, I won’t get weary of walking love even when it seems I have no reason to.
