“Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.”
~ Colossians 3:13

Forgiveness is one of the proofs that God has touched the heart of a man. We usually hear stuff like “to err is human and to forgive is divine.” As great as it sounds to some level, in Jesus forgiveness isn’t just a divine responsibility but also human responsibility. One of the best ways to move on from hurt isn’t to trash it out with your offender and get satisfied but to overlook the offence and still love the offender. Forgiveness isn’t complete when love is missing. Get this:

  1. Bear with people’s offence.
  2. Forgive their wrongs if you went ahead to bear grievance.
  3. God forgave you even before you knew you were wrong so forgive others the same way.

Sometimes it is hard to bear with people because our flesh usually wants to get emotionally satisfied but if you must walk in the light of the life you have received of Christ, you ought to be in charge of your emotions instead of letting it be in charge of you. The Bible asks us to follow God’s example of forgiveness. You never asked for forgiveness before God forgave you and while people were yet in sin, Christ died for our sake!

God forgave you in a manner that you never had to beg for it, He only asked you to receive it by acknowledging it. In the same way, you have to forgive people who wronged you no matter the height of their wrong. There isn’t any kind of offence we were asked not to forgive and so the Christian way is to forgive and let go of the past. If God is to hold your sins against you, you will not stand and therefore you have no moral right to hold another person’s sins against him.

“Just as my sins were forgiving and forgotten, I forgive everyone who has wronged me and I pledge to make peace with them because this is how to express the life of Christ in me.”

Help me Lord to always realize at those times of boiling emotions that the only option I have as your child is to forgive my offenders and love them. Amen.
