“In the way of righteousness is life, and in the pathway thereof there is no death.”
~ Proverbs 12:28
Often times in the Bible we discover that righteousness is usually associated with life. In fact, God said Adam and Eve would die if they disobey Him and one might argue that they didn’t die physically immediately. The question of whether God wanted us to live on this earth forever is out of the argument but they died spiritually. To die spiritually means to be separated from God. When something isn’t fulfilling purpose we may say it is existing but it definitely isn’t living. Sometimes we say “the bulb is dead” and we are referring to its inability to shine again. The man was created to function in God’s image and the moment it got lost, man started living out of course.
1. To be dead means to live out of divine purpose.
2. There is no death in righteousness.
3. In Christ, death doesn’t exist.
It is good news that Jesus came to our rescue. Look at our text again and then look at what Jesus said in John 14:6 “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Jesus is the way and the life and He is also our righteousness and therefore we have an assurance that we are living! Jesus brought back purpose to our lives and in Jesus, we are in constant fellowship with God (Romans 8:16) by the Spirit. We do not have life because we kept all the law or live righteous by our own power but we have life because Jesus is our righteousness.
POINT TO NOTE
In Jesus, we aren’t and can’t be eligible for the wages of sin but rather we are qualified to enjoy His gift of eternal life and in the pathway of our new life there is no death! Physical death may occur but in a sense, physical death isn’t the real death! We are secured in Christ Jesus who is our righteousness and physical death is just a way to live forever!
“I am secured in Christ and I cannot be condemned! I am a recipient of the abundant life God has given. I am righteous, I am alive in Christ and I have conquered death! Hallelujah!”
Thank you, Lord, for giving me, Jesus. I wouldn’t have been righteous if it were to be based on what I could do right. Thank you for giving me your eternal life so that even as life on earth is numbered I am assured that I live forever in you!
