“Do not wear yourself out to get rich; do not trust your own cleverness.”
~ Proverbs 23:4
The American dream is nice but we were never asked to pursue it, we were never asked to pursue being the richest men in the world and we were never asked to pursue being listed in Forbes Magazine. As much as poverty should never be anyone’s desire, God wants us to rather trust Him and not our own wisdom. As great as being rich is, we shouldn’t get rich by all means. Being rich and being fulfilled in life isn’t the same thing. We know the story of the rich fool in the Bible and we know that though he was rich, he didn’t live a fulfilled life. To become rich isn’t all there is to life, there is more.
1. Poverty isn’t God’s desire for you.
2. We shouldn’t pursue wealth by all means.
3. We should learn to trust God, not ourselves.
A lot of people wear themselves out trying to make money and they even engage in certain illegal deals. Today, cyber fraud, kidnapping, robbery and several other activities are on the rise because people want to make it by all means. By wanting it that bad they end up hurting others. As much as you want a better life, you will not have a better life at the expense of other people’s happiness. Money shouldn’t be your pursuit in life, pursue God and allow Him to direct you the way He wants.
POINT TO NOTE
Whatever you pursue is what becomes your master, don’t pursue wealth and do not think your wealth is the solution to life’s problems. God still wants you to trust Him. It is not that God wants you to be poor but the Bible says the earth in its fullness is the Lord’s. Now, if the earth is the Lord’s, you can trust God than trust what is in the earth. Contentment is godly and there is the gain in being contented with what you have (1 Timothy 6:6). You mustn’t have everything and there isn’t any guarantee for that, as long as you have food and shelter, praise God for it! (1 Timothy 6:8)
“The Lord is my shepherd and I shall not want. I refuse to trust my own wisdom, I rather function in the wisdom of God for my life. Although at times it may not seem logical, I have chosen to trust God’s wisdom.”
Precious Father, you know my needs and you meet them in your own wisdom according to your own will. You are my pursuit and nothing else matter. I am confident in your care.
