WE ALSO CRY | BUT WE TRIUMPH

Just because you see our faces on flyers and posters don’t mean everything is alright with us! Just because you see us make nice videos and nice teachings doesn’t mean we don’t experience what you experience. Just because we do not come online to announce the troubles we are faced with doesn’t mean we don’t have tough times! Just because we encourage people, post nice pictures and do a lot of things doesn’t mean we do not have serious struggles that brings tears to our eyes every night. Just like we don’t wash our dirty linens outside, we may not go about announcing the bad times that we’ve had. We may not go to a celebrities instagram handler begging for money but truly, there are times we have stayed for days without even affording to eat! We have also experienced some kind of lack, we have experienced rejections and betrayal and we have experienced serious heart breaks! That everywhere we go people see us and hail us doesn’t mean our pocket looks as nice as our Facebook time-line.
:
Sometimes people come to my inbox seeking for help, some seek for financial help, some seek for advice, some seek for encouragement and we help those we can and leave those we can’t help! Sometimes people even think we are just snubbing them and ignoring them, they think because we appeared on posters we have a lot of money. Some of us are simply riding on the wheels of zeal and passion, some of us are just still on the beginning of the process and we’ve not gotten any bit close to that place you think we are!
:
Many times people think we have so many friends flocking around us but many of us don’t even have people to talk to, some of us are lonely, some of us only smile when the camera comes to our faces just to hide certain things! If many people you go to for help tell you what they are experiencing, you’ll stop going to them for help! That someone is driving a car doesn’t mean that person is free from troubles! That your Uncle just finished building a house doesn’t mean he can afford your school fees! You don’t know what they are presently faced with! That some of us travelled outside the country on a speaking engagement and meetings doesn’t mean we got fat envelopes! Some of us have travelled very long distance to speak to people and do some charity works not because we have enough but because we have passion for what we are doing!
:
Do you think that challenge is peculiar to you? It is not! That you see the “Donate” button on our websites doesn’t mean people are making donations every day, it doesn’t mean we are feeding off people. Many of us go ahead to work really hard so we can continue running the things God has committed to our hands! I remember when I became the president of a youth ministry, many folks came around saying “congratulations“, I didn’t understand what they were congratulating me for, I was expecting encouraging words but one said to me “Mehn, you are big now! Only God knows how much the Bishop will be paying you and how much the ministry will be giving you as allowances.” That was when I understood how people see all of this stuff! Well, I was not paid a dime, nobody sowed seeds to my hands, I didn’t take up personal offering for one day and in fact my personal savings also went up every week for the running of the office and all of that!
:
You may think we are enjoying certain things but we aren’t there yet! Some of us keep smiling and don’t complain so that souls don’t run away from us! Do you know how many relationships I have counselled? Do you know how many people I have prayed for and they experienced healing and answers! Yet, do you know how rocky my own relationships have been? Do you know I have been heartbroken? Do you know sometimes after receiving your testimonies like “George! Thank God for using you! Your counsel saved my relationship!” I go back to my corner to cry over mine that didn’t work? Do you know I have also been scammed of almost all my earnings in one year? These things aren’t peculiar to you alone! Don’t think “public figures” are having a nice life! We simply have chosen not to let those things decide our lives for us!
:
When you don’t see us online sometimes do you think it’s because we wanted to cool off in our “Ikoyi” apartments? Forget some of the things you see in pictures! People may live in nice houses it doesn’t mean they have nice stuffs inside it, you don’t know what we all struggle throughout the day! Many times we go offline because we don’t have data! Sometimes you see us postpone a programs and you think it was something else, it is because we couldn’t get the money we expected for it! Sometimes you don’t see us in events and you think it is pride; it is not! It is because we don’t want to disgrace ourselves, we don’t have transport money to come! That some of us have office doesn’t mean we money trees inside of it!
:
I have gone to events and someone would rush to me and say “Sir George, which side are you going so you drop me off?” I have seen people rush to me hoping I’d give them transport fare or a ride but I disappoint them and they go home thinking I am stingy! If we start opening up to you about all of the things we experience, you will understand that behind the beautiful faces you see every day is hidden pains, heart breaks, failures, lacks and so much more. You may not really want to be a public figure if you know the pressure associated with it. Ask my friends, sometimes I joke about it when they tell me “Mehn, everywhere we go there must be people who know and respect you. You are popular!” and I say to them “I wish I can sell the popularity! I don’t fancy it.” Do you know all of those slay queens that you see everywhere? They have their worst times too! I have had many of them come to my shoulder to cry their hearts out! That we don’t come out to announce it to you doesn’t mean we are hypocrites, it is not necessary discouraging and boring you with the talks of our challenges!
:
You think because we advertise our services online doesn’t mean we get lots of jobs! We are just grateful for the little achievements hoping that we will do more! Do you know how many jobs we even do for free? That you see us post some of our works online doesn’t mean we have made money! We are just excited that we are doing something, we are excited about where we are going but we aren’t there yet! Do you know how many events we speak at just for “God bless you?” I am not putting all of this up to make you feel sorry for us, I just want to tell you that life is in stages and in processes. Don’t feel you are the only one going through bad times and don’t think those “public figures”, your Pastors and leaders do not know what you are experiencing! They experience more! Do you know how many times we have wanted to quit? Do you know how many times we got blackmailed? Do you know how many times we got rejected?
:
This is what I want you to know.
The odds aren’t always in our favour but against all odds we have decided that we won’t be known for the bad things we have experienced! We have chosen not to announce how many times we were hospitalized but to announce things that will encourage you! Despite all failures, rejections and challenges we don’t stay there, we press on! We don’t dwell in the past, whether in the glories or the challenges; we just move on. Great men are not people who didn’t want to give up, they are not people who didn’t struggle with weaknesses, they are not people who never had challenges, they are people who defied all odds and told themselves “what I face today will not stop me from going ahead into tomorrow because every new day will be better than the former!”
:
We have made up our minds that nothing is stopping us! You see that zeal and passion? You see that consistency? It will pay off someday! We triumph!
