THE MINISTER AND CONTROVERSY

:
There is usually this kind of controversy and attempts to blackmail certain ministers of the gospel that rocks within some seasons and a lot of genuine ministers of the gospel have always done their best to stay away from controversy. Yea, the Bible says a minister of the gospel should have a good report but it never said anytime a minister is accused or faced with controversy he is not of God. In fact, you cannot preach the true gospel and not face certain kind of controversy. It is usually said that if you want to please everyone you should just end up being an ice cream seller but even ice cream sellers would face controversy if they ever start hitting profits. Success is always trailed by controversy and you can’t help it! Oh well, controversy sometimes even helps us in spreading this gospel faster! I remember a certain lady saying to me “I started reading and listening to your teachings when my friend would always come around to say some stuffs about you and your teachings. She said you are misleading people and I decided to find out myself but right now I don’t know if I have been misled too because I have come to strongly believe in your teachings and the eyes of my understanding has been enlightened consistently by the reason of listening to your teachings!” If her friend never came with that accusation, she wouldn’t have been exposed to those teachings on my platform.
:
Jesus was very controversial, at a point Jesus was considered a sinner too, probably a womanizer, a liar and one who was possessed with demons! In Mark 3:22 we saw the Jewish leaders saying that Jesus is possessed by satan! This is how till date certain people we assume they speak for God would still come up to say a certain minister works miracles by the power of demons and that his teachings are heavily influenced by demons. This is not to say that such things don’t happen but truthfully speaking, many times these accusations come from the point of ignorance, bitterness, anger and jealousy!
:
If you don’t want to be talked about by others in a bad light, just go ahead and preach what the masses agree with! You can even imagine where an unbeliever is endorsing a preacher and saying “yea! He is a man of God, he preach the raw message!” How come this unbeliever can identify what is the “raw message” and still not be born again? People usually think that anything with strong trace of “legalism” is the raw message! Go ahead and be calm, go ahead and let them model ministry for you and oh yes, they will like you so well. Maybe, you’d mingle with all of them too and attend all of their meetings and conferences and then they’d like you but if you really want to run the path God has designed you to run on, you must be attacked by supposed folks, you must be considered a rebel at some point and some might even ask “who is your Pastor? Where are you even coming from? Who ordained you?” and all of that! When your answers aren’t what they want to hear, they place you where they place others.
:
I remember sometime ago, a certain popular evangelist in the city I lived once called me and asked me who I usually listen to. When I told him, he said I am not preaching the gospel but the message of the devil. Why did he say so? It was because I taught on God’s grace which is without condition! I preached on God’s unconditional love and made it clear how our efforts had no play in our salvation! This was what qualified me devilish in his eyes! Look at Jesus, He came teaching what sounded strange to the Jewish elites, He came saying “Moses said, but now I say to you…” and they imagined who gave that young man audacity to make Himself an authority over Moses and their founding Prophets. Sometimes, when people cannot even lay hands to a fault, they create an imaginary fault and place your character in it because they don’t like you! Yea, at some point you would feel bad and then you’ve got to encourage yourself knowing that there has never been a man God used greatly who wasn’t faced with controversy not because they want to be controversial but because when light comes like a flood, it seems hurting! Many people are full of ego that they will never admit the truth as long as it is coming from the “little” you! Maybe they knew when you got born again or when you were born and they had been Christians before you! Maybe they feel you aren’t too qualified to open their eyes with the truth of the gospel!
:
A minister of the gospel is not a doer of what pleases all men! If you want everyone to make good report of you, go ahead and do their stuffs and not God’s stuff! Okay, everyone like those Pastors who say “Jesus is the way to God but Muslims have their own way too!” Everyone like those “lovers of peace” whose main concern is to see people of diverse faith worship together! Yea, it has gone beyond ecumenism into inter-faith movements! Allow Muslims to use your Church building to pray their prayers, try allowing Pagans to make their sacrifices at your church building, gather everyone of diverse belief and make them feel alright about the wrong things they believe and then you’ll be a world hero! You will be loved by everyone regardless of denomination and religious divide. But a minister of the gospel isn’t called to be a world hero! We are called to reconcile men to Christ and believe me the author of this worldly system will always release his arsenals to see how to frustrate you! But now you know that they a mere distractions and you will not let it distract you!
:
I love what Jesus said concerning this issue! He said in Luke 6:26 “Woe unto you if all men speak well of you!” Let me be blunt, if all men speak good of you especially as a minister of the gospel, you are not truly all for Jesus! You cannot be all for Jesus and not have some people even among the Christian folks who won’t revile you! Jesus said these people spoke so well of false Prophets and I know the tactics false prophets come with! They come with morals, they come with philanthropic ideas! Yea, they do charity and even yell against mishandling of the poor citizens of the country! But they don’t glorify Jesus, they are not on the field for Jesus, they may be there for some other things but not for Jesus! When you hear these people speak about doing nice things, you like them but they aren’t all out for Jesus and that is why they must keep pleasing men to stay relevant! They don’t even do charity quietly, they make so much noise about it because they are looking for public endorsement!
:
The Message bible communicates it better; it says “There’s trouble ahead when you live only for the approval of others, saying what flatters them, doing what indulges them. Popularity contests are not truth contests—look how many scoundrel preachers were approved by your ancestors! Your task is to be true, not popular.” You see that? Jesus doesn’t want us to compete and seek for fame! He wants us to stay true to our calling and we can’t be normal doing that for there is no man called by Jesus who is just natural and normal. Yea, people must talk about you because you are a mystery to them and believe me when I say you owe nobody any kind of explanation because they won’t even understand it. Get focused on what you are called to do. If they ever stop insulting you, check very well to ensure you have not become like them or maybe they have come to believe in you!
:
This is not to say that every controversial man is from God, there are also obviously numerous controversial people who aren’t from God but our subject matter here is those who are called of God and when people revile you and make mockery of you, Jesus said you should rejoice!
:
I leave you with the words of Jesus in Matthew 5:11-12(MSG) “Not only that—count yourselves blessed every time people put you down or throw you out or speak lies about you to discredit me. What it means is that the truth is too close for comfort and they are uncomfortable. You can be glad when that happens—give a cheer, even!—for though they don’t like it, I do! And all heaven applauds. And know that you are in good company. My prophets and witnesses have always gotten into this kind of trouble.”
:
Oh Hallelujah! I rejoice!
