CHARLATANS IN ECCLESIA

:
The height of hypocrisy and pretence a lot of people exhibit in the religious circle is so heart breaking and utterly disgusting! They pretend with reckless abandon, they just don’t pretend but also judge people for not pretending! You see a brother brag about how he has never gotten sick since he got born again and blame another who got sick and say something is wrong with their Christian life! Yet, this brother that claims he has never gotten sick is having canal complications! You will see a sister who claims that she has never gotten sick and laugh at another sister who had health issues but she has pimples all over her face! Does it mean his tooth and her face has no immunity? Does it mean the provision of divine health doesn’t cover their teeth and face? Yes, some even mock you if they ever see you coming out of the hospital and they tell you “Oh no! It is very bad for a Christian to go to hospital! You should have sowed that money you used on drugs to the Church and you will see how God will heal you.” They make you feel so bad for ever seeking medical attention, they make you feel as though you are not serious with God, as though you have not prayed enough, fasted enough or studied enough! They make you start questioning your salvation because they tell you how they don’t have problems in their lives and hide every little detail that links to the fact they really have issues! But this people get hungry, they get thirsty and they never sowed the money for food and drinks to the Church so that their hunger will be quenched without food! They act as though God didn’t create the trees and herbs which the Bible says is for our health. When they even get sick they deny it and say its just stress! Well, maybe, it wasn’t stress for the other fellow.
:
Approach some believers and tell them you have financial issues and you need their help or encouragement, they look at you as though you are dressing improperly. They tell you how they have never lacked a dime since they got born again, they tell you maybe you’ve never confessed enough, maybe you’ve never prayed enough and walked in the Spirit enough! But when you hear their scores, they are in several debts, they beg others for transport money sometimes on sundays, they quote bibles and wouldn’t tell you how they used to beg for transport fare in the past. They pretend nothing is wrong with them because they want to paint a picture that since they got born again they have been living a problem free life! They want to prove a point, they want you to see them as strong and matured believers, they take pride in it but hide their issues because it will fault everything they have said! They make it seem as though problem-free living is what Christianity is all about!
:
Sometimes, a depressed believer visits a supposed elder or learned fellow in Church to seek for help and counselling and you hear stuffs like “a Christian cannot be depressed! Are you sure you’ve spoken in tongues today? Don’t say you are depressed next time. ” Oh my! “A Christian cannot be this and that” has gotten a lot of people worse than they are. In the United States, a Pastor of a mega Church who has been helping people committed suicide over depression. He wouldn’t openly talk about his challenges because it has been assumed Pastors are perfect and no one wants to appear unqualified. People are now afraid to open up to what is wrong with them because they will be judged wrongly, they will be criticized and be seen as people who aren’t yet believers. A lot of believers are seeking for help outside the Church because in Church you are guilty for not being materially rich! They will tell you “poverty is a sin!” You are guilty for ever getting sick, they will tell you that you sinned or maybe your faith is not strong! Nobody talks about their needs anymore because you will be looked at as someone who isn’t a Christian yet.
:
Someone comes to another believer to seek help on addiction and you hear things like “when that urge come, pray in tongues! If you are busy praying in tongues, you’ll not be thinking about addiction!” I am sorry but those our irrelevant spiritual jargons aren’t making sense anymore! People are experiencing real life issues, people are getting depressed everyday, people are stuck to their addictions everyday and we can’t even admit it, we don’t admit a believer can experience those things, we only pride in our strength that doesn’t even exist! They come and go without any help, they leave and get worse than they were. Some starts pretending everything is fine and they join the large population of pretenders who come up to others and to say “if you are sick, something is wrong with you! Your walk with God is questionable!”
:
Some believers are having temperamental issues! They are very hot tempered that they carry it into their marriage. Sometimes this people know they have issues, they know they need help but when they meet another folk in Church and say “I really need help. I am hot tempered, what can I do?” they get response like “there isn’t any temperament for a believer except Holy Ghost temperament!” People clap for us when we make high sounding statements like this but it doesn’t reflect on their experiences because we seem to deny our humanity, pretend we are cool and never work on ourselves.
:
It hurts me that sexual abuse is on the rise in Churches, hidden addictions are on the rise! Everyone isn’t seeking for help because they will be judged! Ask people why they didn’t come to Church on Sunday and they will tell you “I was strong!” They can’t admit something was wrong with them because it would question what they had preached in the past! So many married believers who have issues can’t even talk about it, some women are abused by their husband but they can’t open up about it because they have been given awards as serious Christians in Church! There are lots of homosexual addicts who even abuse children in the children’s ‘ ministry. Oh, they speak in tongues, teach the bible like no other and even get everyone on the floor at the wave of their hands! They cover up their mess, pretend everything is fine and even get married with those tendencies! People pretend a lot because they will be criticized and judged if they ever open up, no one is asking why they act how they act and the kind of encounters they had as children.
:
I am an advocate of miracles, I believe in the finished works of Jesus on the cross and I believe so much in the healing ministry. But I believe anyone who has issues ought to be free to open up and speak about it in Church. We can do a lot with the word, we can teach people what God is saying about their situations and show them how to consistently apply God’s word with patience and they begin to see the change they seek. We always assume its everyone that is following with the oratory prowess, their is no room for personal mentoring and serious coaching! Counsellings days are now meant for casting demons and Pastors won’t even advice people to seek professional help from reliable places. Your pastor is not your business coach and your pastor may even be the wrong person to tell you who to marry! Believe it or doubt it, that is your business. Many people can’t even trust their Pastors anymore, they tell the Pastor the good stories but never the bad stories. I once heard a Pastor say that any of his members who gets sick will be flogged! God knows I wanted to shout at him and say “you lie!” I have heard a preacher say “if you are poor in money, check well! Something is wrong with your spiritual life!” I don’t understand where they are getting all this ideas from! Church gatherings has become the den of pretenders! Since a member will be flogged for getting sick, they will not admit they are sick until they die in it!
:
If your so called giant faith couldn’t prevent you from getting sick in the first, you need help! You need to seek for assistance, as you can call someone to pray for you, you are free to visit the hospital and do medical check up! It is not a sin. Paul asked Timothy to take little alcohol as a preventive measure to his stomach ache! I thought Paul was going to judge him and blame him for getting sick! I thought Paul would tell him he wasn’t yet a believer in the finished works of Jesus. Even if people don’t know, don’t blame them for not knowing! Teach them if you know. I was in a meeting where a brother bragged he had never gotten sick after he got born again, he announced boldly that anyone who is ever sick in that meeting have serious spiritual issues and he sounded so judgemental. It was not one week later and he fell on the road and was admitted into the hospital. Even if he had never gotten sick previously, he was sick now and it was obvious.
:
As much as we encourage people to be positive, to speak the right words and say what God’s word has said concerning them, if they ever experience something challenging, they should open up about it and it doesn’t mean something is wrong with them. Today, people have issues in business and we start assuming they don’t pay tithe! When did we got to this level? Instead of praying for them and encouraging them, we start looking for something to blame them for! This is not what Jesus would have done. We see young ladies and boys who are very sexually active and we start judging them, we can’t sit them down, check if they had gone through sexual abuse as children, we can’t start coaching them with love, prayers and professional counselling but we can just stand and judge them without offering them help! We pretend as though some of the things we are judging them aren’t our challenges too!
:
It is so sad that a young lady gets pregnant illegitimately but is very afraid to let the Church know about it! This is because she will be crucified, she will be tagged the worst lady in Church and she will be given back sit. The saddest of it all is that people judging her are so guilty of the same thing, some have sponsored abortions, some are very addicted to immoralities but because they have not been caught, they judge others and appear so clean!
:
In Church gatherings today, a sister appears in the dress she loves and because it doesn’t meet the standard of some other brethren, she is tagged a prostitute, she is tagged wayward but in her closet, she prays more than them, she studies more than them, she loves more than them and she has a very good relationship with God more than them! So many Church folks keeps judging another person just because their own standards were different! People get judged for being themselves. I remember a Pastor cautioning me for taking pictures with my sister and he said it looks suspicious! He asked if I was sure I wasn’t sleeping with my sister. Yet, we hear lots of stories about this our holy brethren, we ourselves even get exposed to their addictions and sometimes our sisters enter their rooms with trust and come out broken and messed up!
:
The reason this is rampant is because no one is admitting their areas of weakness anymore, nobody is open anymore! Everyone is pretending to be so fine, everyone is pretending never to be depressed and hypocrisy becomes the deal of the day! I don’t want to be in that class, a class of people who make it seem as though something isn’t right with you for having challenges! I don’t want to be those holy brothers in the Lord who cannot resist the sight of a woman but never admit they can be sexually aroused, who a woman may visit on trust but will come out of their room messed up and yet they pretend like they don’t have issue. I don’t want to be that brother who cannot share my issues with fellow brethren. I don’t want to be that brother who judge others for weaknesses that I also have and I don’t want to be that person who will never admit I had been there before. I don’t want to be that brother who doesn’t crush for a woman, who can’t walk down the street with a woman, who can’t go on a date or have a relationship just because of what people will say. People’s opinion stopped being a matter to be a very long time ago.
:
I don’t know how this may sound to you, I don’t know how you may feel about this! Some people feel we are beginning to backslide when we say things like this, some people feel we are beginning to doubt God’s power when we say speaking in tongues is not enough and they think our prayer life has grown cold. When people have real life issues, while we speak in tongues and cast out devils, they need assistance, they need to be coached and if we can’t coach them, we should be plain that we can’t help them. People who suffer addictions and emotional challenges needs some kind of therapy even after we have spoken in tongues! Speaking in tongues does not stop masturbation, it doesn’t stop sexual immorality, it doesn’t stop being a glutton! It would have stopped immorality in the Corinthians Church, a place where the gifts of the Spirit got manifested in a very high degree! Paul would have asked them to speak more! These are flaws of humanity and until we admit it we can’t help it.
:
The mind needs constant renewal, the body needs serious training! Addictions needs therapy, business challenges needs business counselling, relationship and marriage issues needs effort by both couples and sometimes professional help… These things happen to believers and we should stop pretending and start solving issues! Being a believer doesn’t mean being immune to some real life challenges. Jesus didn’t come to give us money or immunity over some of those challenges, he didn’t come to save us from certain earthly troubles! As long as we still have flesh and we are in this world, we are still exposed to certain negativities and we can live in constant victory above them when we open up about them and tackle it! The Church is supposed to be a community of love, there is no Christianity without community and when we can no longer assist ourselves or encourage ourselves but keep judging people for experiencing what we pretend never to have experienced, then it is not Christianity that we are practicing! It is mere religion!
