BELIEVER’S VICTORY OVER SIN

:
“For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin. And since we died with Christ, we know we will also live with him. We are sure of this because Christ was raised from the dead, and he will never die again. Death no longer has any power over him. When he died, he died once to break the power of sin. But now that he lives, he lives for the glory of God. So you also should consider yourselves to be dead to the power of sin and alive to God through Christ Jesus.” – Romans 6:7‭-‬11 NLT
:
The believer in Christ Jesus remains an alien to sin because in the world of sin he has ceased to exist. We are dead to sin, we cannot reverse back from a righteous man to a sinner. We are righteous by the reason of what Jesus did and it is irreversible. Now, it would be an insult to the works of Jesus to address a believer as a sinner and it would also be inappropriate for a believer to be in constant identification with the works of the flesh which is results of what the sin left over in the body.
:
There are only two parts of Christ which is the head and the body. The Bible says Jesus is the head of Christ and we are His body. Death lost dominion over Christ and we are the body of Christ. We are dead to sin and can’t be “deader” than we have died.
:
We are not dead in sin, we are dead to sin. We have been disconnected from sin, we have checked out of sin. Just as Jesus is no longer in the tomb, we are no longer in sin. Jesus can’t be found among the dead anymore and therefore we cannot be found in sin. The Bible says “In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.” – Romans 6:11 NIV.
:
You ought to be able to count yourself dead to sin, it is first of all a mindset before it begins to reflect on your attitudes. The Bible says there is no connection between the living and the dead, since you are dead to sin and alive in Christ, there is no connection between you and sin.
:
When the Bible says you are dead to sin, it means when sin looks for you, it can’t find you because you don’t exist to it anymore. Sin may find the dead body, he may find dead skin but it can’t find you who is now a new creature in Christ Jesus. And as we renew our mind, those leftovers starts disappearing! The truth remains, we are dead to sin but living in Christ who is now our Lord. The transformation of the body will continue until the last days but no matter the struggle, count yourself dead to sin. Paul calls it a secret but let me also shock you with it. Hear him
:
“But let me reveal to you a wonderful secret. We will not all die, but we will all be transformed! It will happen in a moment, in the blink of an eye, when the last trumpet is blown. For when the trumpet sounds, those who have died will be raised to live forever. And we who are living will also be transformed. For our dying bodies must be transformed into bodies that will never die; our mortal bodies must be transformed into immortal bodies. Then, when our dying bodies have been transformed into bodies that will never die, this Scripture will be fulfilled: “Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting? ” For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power. But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians 15:51-55
:
You see that? What Jesus already did will be perfected in the last days when we will finally wear off this flesh. We can only manage the flesh now by renewing our mind daily with God’s word because the word of God tells us who we are and the knowledge of who we are also dictates to us how we should live. What ever God calls to be becomes what He called it to be and if God says you are righteous, there is nothing you can do about it. This will be hard for folks who are bent on legalism.
:
When God said “let there be light” it means “allow light to proceed!” it was a forceful command. In the same way the Bible says “Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions.” – Romans 6:12 ESV. We can now forcefully disallow sin because we are dead to it. Sin is no longer authoritative in us because we have broken free from sin and death. Sin has been unseated from our lives, we therefore shouldn’t allow sin to reign because we are above it. How can you let what you have defeated still have dominion over you? How can you let someone you won in a fight still put you to flight?
:
The Bible says “Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness.”- Romans 6:13 ESV. Look at that! One of the ways to let sin reign is by yielding our body as instruments for unrighteous living. We can not let sin reign by presenting our bodies as living sacrifice with the mindset that we have been brought from death to life. The next verse says “For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.” – Romans 6:14 ESV. Sin have lost the power to dominate us as believers because we have been taken out of the rule of law to the rule of Grace. Under law, there is no capacity to live above sin but under Grace there is no capacity for sin to rule over the believer. We live above sin by the Grace of God. We do not live above sin because we tried avoiding wrong doing, we avoid wrong doing because we live above it and won’t let it dictate our lives anymore.
:
We have been set free from the demands of the law for even the gentiles were marked as rejected for the fact the law wasn’t given to them. The law had demands which we cannot meet and we have been placed under grace which gives us no such demands. Jesus fulfilled all the demands of the law for our sake and handed over to us a clean record as though we were the ones who fulfilled it. He came in our place that we might live in His place.
:
The first thing God desires in men is to believe in what He has done for their salvation. The highest form of obedience in the New Testament is to believe in Jesus as your Lord and savior. Concerning believers the Bible says “But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed.” – Romans 6:17 ESV.
:
We are first obedient from the heart before we can subject our body to righteousness. Our heart was made right by the gospel which we have believed. This is why the Bible says we won’t perish if we believe. Obedience is better than sacrifice, that is to say, obeying the word (as in believing) is better than making sacrifices for the sake of sin. We live as sacrifices in ourselves. This is why the Bible isn’t asking believers to obey anymore but rather to do the word. To obey is to believe, to do is to enforce.
:
The law is a constitution of slavery, it is a clear display of the limitations of your flesh. The best you can be under the law is a slave. But under Grace we are free, free to live and free to worship. It is under grace that one who was once a slave becomes a king and a priest. Just as Isaac was to Abraham, we are the Children of promise and not those born under slavery. When you take a look at the story of Abraham, we see something profound. Ishmael was a child born out of lack of faith in God’s promises, it was a product of self-efforts, a product of a trial to help God out in doing what He said He will do. God would still refer to Isaac as Abraham’s son because that was God’s own plans for Abraham. God doesn’t recognize your efforts done out of fear and lack of faith in Him. The Bible says “The son of the slave wife was born in a human attempt to bring about the fulfillment of God’s promise. But the son of the freeborn wife was born as God’s own fulfillment of his promise.” – Galatians 4:23 NLT
:
When we teach about the believer’s victory over sin, lots of believers get worried. Because they still struggle with an addiction, they want to think there is something not right about what they believe. They want to think there is more they need to do or maybe they aren’t even yet born again. Sometimes they even start bringing in their own efforts to see if it would work out! The Bible says
:
“So now that you know God (or should I say, now that God knows you), why do you want to go back again and become slaves once more to the weak and useless spiritual principles of this world? You are trying to earn favor with God by observing certain days or months or seasons or years.” – Galatians 4:9‭-‬10 NLT
:
Let me bring this to your notice. Instant change is not a lasting change, the law might have seem instantaneous in results but it was never a lasting result, it was mere shadows. Grace brought about a new life entirely and begins to deal with the mind. Under Grace there is room for renewal of the mind, there is room for gradual change and you aren’t under any pressure. Jesus saved us from the pressures of the law and the flesh. Grace produces permanent results and is the only means of salvation. Grace is our victory over sin? How is that possible?
:
On the note of finality, the Bible says “For the grace of God has been revealed, bringing salvation to all people. And we are instructed to turn from godless living and sinful pleasures. We should live in this evil world with wisdom, righteousness, and devotion to God, while we look forward with hope to that wonderful day when the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, will be revealed. He gave his life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and to make us his very own people, totally committed to doing good deeds” – Titus 2:11‭-‬14 NLT
:
You see that? Grace is a teacher, it teaches us to say no to sin. Christ gave his life to free us from every kind of sin and make us His very own people. A day shall come when we will be salvaged from the flesh entirely and until that day comes, we can live in this evil world with wisdom, good doings and devotion to God, our father.

God bless you.
