HEY! YOU’RE DRIVING | FOCUS!

:
When I enrolled for a driving class some years ago, there were lots of things that happened including my father asking me “whose car will you drive after learning how to drive?” Years later he was saying “why can’t you guys go park my car well? Will I have to go down every time to re-park?”…. The most remarkable lesson I got from my driving practice was when I hit the road with the Volks Wagen golf I was entitled to throughout the driving class. I will try not to make it a long one.
:
I was on the driver’s seat, my heart pounding at the first trial! What if the car jumps off and hit against the wall? What if I speed off and lost control? There were many what ifs but if I didn’t try, I wouldn’t have known it was much easier. I held on to the clutch and break pad kick starting the vehicle. Few minutes later, I was in the road with my teacher on the left side of the car telling me where to go to, when to speed up, when to change gear and all that!
:
I had driven for few minutes when I thought people were looking at me. Maybe some were admiring me and some were mocking me, I felt some were saying “this guy surely isn’t a good driver!” I remember almost hitting a car when I swerved to avoid another car that was speeding up and the driver shouted at me “you idiot! Get that moving coffin out of the road! Animal!” I was about trying to look and explain when my tutor shouted at me “hey! You’re driving! Focus!” Ahaa! That was all I needed to hear and that was all I needed at that moment.
:
So many times, we are faced with issues as we drive through the hurdles of life. Our journey to success is like a man driving. Many don’t start the journey at all because they are afraid to hit the road! They still have doubt if the instructions they received would work for them and they never get to kick start the engine. A lot of others finally hit the road but they get distracted with lots of other drivers who are either trying to engage them in a race and show them how much skills they’ve got. In life, you’ve got to know where you are going and you’ve got to focus on your mission. Looking sideways might get you caught up in accidents, sometimes you don’t have to explain a thing, you just have to keep moving!
:
We might be faced with lots of mates who are doing so well, be happy with them, celebrate them but don’t spend your time feeling bad that they are doing greatly! You meet people with so much speed, don’t keep observing their speed, focus on your calling and keep moving steadily even if it is slow. Don’t give in to the pressures coming from other people’s achievements, don’t even try to compete with them or achieve what they’ve achieved over night! We all will never have equal results but we all can have the best of us! Your limitations would have even come from your incompetence and mistakes but now that you know, correct the loopholes and don’t focus on the mistakes anymore! People who make mistakes and realize it gets to do better only when they don’t keep crying over a spilt milk.
:
Societal pressures can hurt you for life. Maybe someone who once challenged you to a feat truly achieved a great deal! Do you go ahead to keep up with the competition or do you focus on doing your own thing the way you ought to? Just in a bid to please someone and prove we are good in what we do shouldn’t make us seek success by all means. You don’t succeed by all means, you succeed by following certain principles and indeed you succeed trusting wholly on God while executing the plans.
:
Don’t associate with people who will always pressure you to reach your breaking point, associate with those who are willing to encourage you and walk with you at your own pace. I remember crying one night and telling a friend “I am not comfortable with where I am… I thought by now all my dreams would have become a reality.” And she responded “take it easy, you don’t have to rush a thing and whatever level it is you have come up to now, manage it well regardless of how little it is. The light keeps increasing in capacity and as we keep building energy gradually.” That is the kind of person(s) you ought to associate with and not people that will always point someone else and tell you “you’ve got to prove to them who you are!” You needn’t prove anything to anyone, you don’t need to explain to anyone why you aren’t the big name now! Just keep building gradually.
:
Before Jesus came, there was John the Baptist! Jesus didn’t come competing with John, they both focused on their different calling and of course John who started before Jesus was just a forerunner of Jesus… A lot of people have ended up competing with their forerunners therefore loosing relevance. Jesus went so humble to be baptized by one who came to make way for Him. It is like the King bowing before his servant! It doesn’t matter who you started with and where they are now. It doesn’t matter what people expected of you and where you are now, it doesn’t matter the dreams you had and where you are now…. What matters is your disposition to the course. The Bible says a man who is diligent stands before kings, it means a man who is consistent and steady with what he is doing regardless of the storms will definitely come to that point of being equal with kings.
:
If that relationship is mounting pressure on you to evade process and get quick but temporal result, give it up. You don’t need such pressures in your life. If that man or woman in your life keeps making you feel less of yourself and keeps trying to make you engage in competition with others, don’t give in… Stay focused! It is better you loose friends and reach the goal than keep friends who wants you to play foul and get suspended. Those who love you will not leave you to your comfort anyway, they will push you to become your best but they will understand your strength and your pace and push you according to your strength! They will not mount pressures on you and like the tutor in the car I was driving they will always tap you on the shoulder and say “Hey! You’re driving… Focus!”
:
God bless you.
