PRAYERS | THE ROUTINE

:
If you ever thought it would be sin to skip morning and night prayers, you’re wrong! But if you’ve ever thought it doesn’t matter if you don’t pray at those times, you’re set for danger! We don’t need to approach the concept of morning and night prayers with a religious and legalistic mind but we also have to be careful never to let knowledge puff us up and bring down the fire! I will explain what I mean in this brief story.
:
When I was little, mum would always make sure and force us to pray and read the bible late in the night and early in the morning. Punishment would follow if it was ever realized we skipped such prayers but we were never made to understand better why we needed to be praying that way. Mum did an excellent job, she made sure she brought us up the best way she could. Because of the legalistic way it was presented to us, we thought it would be getting God very angry if we ever forget to pray at those times and we even thought we would sleep and never wake up or go out in the morning and get hit by a vehicle if we do not pray. When we realized none of those happened, praying at those times became just an option of convenience.
:
However, the importance of prayer can never be overemphasized and the genesis of building a consistent prayer life must include a consistent routine. Any believer who doesn’t devote quality time to prayers is set for danger! The bible says in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (ESV)
:
“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
:
You ought to know that prayer is God’s will in Christ Jesus for you! This means in Christ Jesus you aren’t meant to relax but to exercise faith, express the union you have with God and build divine-intimacy into reality! In Christ we do not pray beggarly prayers but we pray in rejoicing and in giving thanksgiving at all circumstances! You see that? I’ve got to explain better. In Christ Jesus our prayer is always geared towards thanksgiving regardless of the circumstances because we surely know that as the bible says in Romans 8:28 (KJV)
:
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
:
Now, rejoicing and thanksgiving in the place of prayer is an indication of love and trust in God! It is an expression of total submission to God’s word! The Bible talked about praying without ceasing… That would seem impossible to the human mind but what the bible is actually asking us to do is to build a prayer consciousness that forms into every bit of our character! That means every single time instead of being moody or letting things get at us we rather switch over to thanksgiving! It doesn’t mean kneeling and praying at every tick of the time but it means building a consciousness.
:
You can’t build this consciousness when you do not form the habit of starting and ending your day in prayers! To start your day in prayers means to start your day in agreement with God! To end your day in prayers also means to end your day in thanksgiving, to ease off every negative thoughts, every worry, every failure and sleep off with trust in God. Even if all you say in sincerity is “thank you for the beautiful day that ended in praise! I am trusting you for another beautiful day!” You do not pray just when it is convenient, you pray because it’s your life and the simplest spiritual exercise for every believer in Christ Jesus.
:
One of the ways to know a Christian who is on fire for God is their prayer life. There is no believer who lacks proper prayer life that the Holy Spirit doesn’t convict concerning their prayer life but many Christians develop resistance against the pushing of the Holy Spirit. When the Holy Spirit is asking you to pray, it means there is something great the Lord has done that He wants you to agree upon, believe and receive! So many believers do not see power not because they don’t have it but because they do not make it available in the place of prayer.
:
When you wake in the morning, you ought to confess God’s word over your day and give instructions to your day! By confessing the word of God you’re also putting into your own consciousness the truth of God’s word. You ought to agree with God over the day in thanksgiving and this way you make Him involved! As your father He wants to be involved in all of your affairs! God isn’t involved uninvited! The Bible says in Psalm 121:6 (KJV)
:
“The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.”
:
That is the promise of God and when you put it into your consciousness, you’ll be bold to stand against every negativity during the day! You can declare negative occurrences as lies and shadows because you know that was never God’s word for you. It is better to go in His might rather than go in your own might and later realizing you needed to go in His might! Deciding to routine prayers is an act of pride and trust in self. Prayer shows our dependence on God.
:
Regardless of how weak we became because of the days activities, we can always thank God before retiring to the bed but when we pray in the morning, very early, we are praying void of distractions, noise from the neighbors and the rush to get into something. Prayer especially at devoted times shows our honour to God and it nurtures spiritual development.
:
Finally, God is more interested in your heart. If there are other times that is more convenient to pray void of distractions, it is as good as praying in the morning and night. There is no biblical requirement to limit our prayers to morning and night alone or even noon! What the Bible instructs is that we pray without ceasing! We ought to pray at all times! When you are prompted to pray while signing that document, while driving to work, while in the toilet or even while playing basketball, what stops you? There is nothing worthy enough to stop you from communicating with your father. Feel free to talk to God anytime and anywhere! But make sure you’re developing that life of prayer beyond the ordinary!
:
I leave you with this portion of the Bible which says in Jude 20-21 (KJV)
:
“But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.”
:
God bless you.
