Just recently, a young South African entrepreneur who has been following George’s Diary asked me through one of my various channels in the social media to pray for him. He told me he doesn’t know how all the money he makes goes, he told me he is the only son of his family and he needs to take care of his wife and kids too! He told me he has a job but it doesn’t sustain him. He makes money but he doesn’t know how it goes.
As I read his message, I could sense strongly in my heart to encourage him to be financially responsible in his local Church. I told him his commitment to God will motivate him to trust God more.
God wants us to trust him! The more you commit your business to God, the more you look up to Him than to your efforts, the more you see yourself receiving because you have believed. I also asked him to change his confession about himself. With that, let’s go to what we have today.
“If you give up your lust for money, throw your gold away, then the Almighty Himself shall be your treasure; he will be your precious silver! Then you will delight yourself and look up to God. You will pray to Him and He will hear you… Whatever you wish will happen!… If you are attacked and knocked down, you will know that. There is someone who will lift you up again.” Job 24:24-29
Lots of insights! First, you must give up on your trust on your finances and look up to God! Only then can God be your treasure! That is when you’ll begin to see results when you pray because your trust is absolutely on God! It also said that whatever you wish in that condition of trusting God will happen! You see, your wish is what guides your confession!
And when in the cause of overlooking your achievements and trusting in God, you’ll be sure that God is always lifting you up even when you’re attacked and knocked down! Verse 30 boldly declares that your sin can’t even stop Him as long as you’re trusting in Him! It all begins with giving up your trust in your wealth…
Until you give up your trust in your wealth, your offering makes no sense if at all you’ll be willing to give since you don’t trust God but your wealth! You can imagine where God himself becomes your treasure, what a glorious blessing! Watch it; whatever you wish for will happen, not because you feel it but because you trust the doer!
The bible says in Proverbs 4:23 ” out of your heart are the issues of life!”
So, your life is not what men have said concerning you or what is happening around you! It is a condition of what is happening within you. You have to put God’s word into your heart and trust it.
You didn’t come by surprise! God already made plan for you… That plan starts working when you get born again. You don’t plan for your neighbors kids and in the same way God doesn’t plan for people who are not His children! Your coming to the world isn’t a surprise to the world, He isn’t confused and taken on emergency on your arrival! God knew and planned your arrival! Hear Him
“For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
Don’t spend time meditating on the world news! You’ll only end up re broadcasting their stories! You’ve got to listen and meditate on the word-news! You’ll end up re broadcasting God’s word concerning you! That is why when men says there is casting down, you shall say there is lifting up!
Hearing God is a gift! Proverbs 20:12
It is not everybody that hear God, it is only God’s children that can hear God. Jesus said “my sheep hears my voice” John 10:27. Not every man can hear God and so not everyone can confess God’s word!
Isaiah 1:19 “If you will only let me help, if you will only obey me, I will make you rich” (TLB)
Many are struggling by themselves but they’ve not allowed God to help! God never makes a promise of what He has not already fulfilled! God has helped you anyway… You only need to hand the reins over to God! Give God glory for what you’ve seen in your life… Always confess that only God can do it, only God can help you and you’ll see God’s help coming your way. If you’ll only let God help you… James wrote
“You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God.”
Many don’t have because they’ve not asked God, many don’t ask God because they’ve not trusted God enough… Even with the little they have! You can’t ask help from someone you don’t trust, even when you ask such people for help, unbelief will be everywhere in your mind! Many have that approach towards God.
How do you let God help you? First it is by believing God and by following God’s outlined principles! If you’ll only declare God’s word and give Him glory for what you’ve experienced and what you’ve not experienced.
You need to give to the needy and sow your seeds! Now I said earlier, you don’t give offerings or give the needy so that you can bribe God into blessing you, you do so in agreement with God’s word and absolute trust in Him!
Offerings and giving to the needy is not the law of Moses! Abraham, whom we claim his blessings was a man of faith and not of a man of laws! He followed God by faith and paid tithe by faith! Giving is a faith exercise!
We need to understand the scriptures not from an extremist view of one truth in defiance of another faith does not neglect the laws of the Lord, it does not just obey the laws of the Lord, it does the word of God! Faith is a product of hearing God’s word and meditating on that same word… Faith isn’t a result of just hearing but of hearing God’s word!
So why do you give offerings and do charity? It is an act of faith where you make God a part of what you do! Remember, you aren’t doing it to woo God into blessing you, you’re doing it as an outward act of your absolute trust on God and his ability to bless you. It is like baptism…
Baptism doesn’t make you saved, you were baptized because you have been saved. In the same manner, your financial stewardship doesn’t make you rich, you do so because you believe God will keep supplying your needs.
Remember what I said earlier, you don’t need to feel it, you just need to believe it and you’ll see it coming your way! When God says “I will…” He already has! God doesn’t promise what He hasn’t done… Jesus thought us to follow that approach in praying. When you pray, don’t wait for results, thank Him for results (whether seen or unseen).
“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” Mark 11:24
You see, when you pray, you believe! What do you believe… You will believe that you have received it and not believing that you’ll receive it! You can only have it when you believe you already had it!
The problem surrounding a lot of teachings today especially on tithing and seed sowing is the wrong teachings people preach concerning it. People are forced and threatened with fire and brimstone to tithe, people are denied some attention until they tithe.
Therefore, church members see tithe as a mere obligation than a necessity! The true message of giving is lost in many Church organisations! Hear Paul
2 Corinthians 9:7 ESV
“Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
Let me show you an example of a woman in the bible who out of absolute trust gave more than her ten percent! She gave all and Jesus acknowledged her offering
“Jesus looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the offering box, and he saw a poor widow put in two small copper coins. And he said, “Truly, I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all of them. For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.” Luke 21:1-4 ESV
You see, the rich men gave out of their abundance… They had more than enough and so they just gave for giving sake! But a woman who has only two copper coin gave the two! Not one! Watch it, that was all she had but she dropped it into the box! The bible didn’t say she was forced… She willingly and cheerfully gave her all! And Jesus acknowledged her offering! What made her give that much despite her condition? Her absolute trust was in God!
Today, many people give excuses for not being financially responsible in the Church! They say they have little… That statement can only come from people who don’t trust God! Anytime I give for the work of the ministry, my focus is more on God! My offering doesn’t do the work, I give because the work was done for me at a free cost!
You see something from the last verse we studied? The big men where just there to answer names! They gave so much… Our churches today would celebrate them and publish their names as highest donors and defenders of the faith! But that poor woman that gave her all was not noticed by anybody except God himself! Just as Jesus talked about her, God was talking about her!
“Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.” Matthew 6:1-4
There is a reward for givers! How do they receive it? They receive as they give! God has already made provisions available for people who give and sow seed with an absolute trust in Him and for His glory!
Your giving through faith makes you hope more on God for your sustenance. The entire book of 2 Corinthians 8:1-24 talked about Christians in Macedonia. All though there seem to be much poverty in that area, they were giving joyfully and not under pressure! Paul said concerning them
“They gave not only what they could afford, but far more; I can testify they did it because they wanted to…” 2 Cor 8:3
Paul also said they dedicated themselves to God! That is what giving should be all about in the new testament!
…On the first day of every week (Sunday), each of you is to put something aside and store it up, as he may prosper…” 1 Corinthians 16:1-4
I believe Paul was trying to encourage stewardship. Let’s read that same portion from the TLB version
“…On every Lord’s Day each of you should put aside SOMETHING from what you’ve earned during the week, and use it for this offering. The amount depends on how much the Lord has helped you earn”
Paul however distanced the instruction of giving from being an order, he wrote in his 2nd letter to the Corinthians
” I am not giving you an order; I am not saying you must do it but others are eager for it. This is one way to prove your love is real” verse 8
It is also important that you learn to give to those who teach you the word of God, that is what giving in the church is all about! You need to give to your Pastors and those people from whom you learn the word of God! Paul wrote concerning that
“Let the elders who rule well be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in preaching and teaching. For the Scripture says, “You shall not muzzle an ox when it treads out the grain,” and, “The laborer deserves his wages.” 1 Timothy 5:17-18
You have no excuse not to give except for the lack of trust in God’s ability to sufficiently replenish your money bag! You must honor the Lord not just with your life but with your resources too! Many people get angry when we preach about these things! I rarely talk about giving but I am led to talk about it now. If you sit under ministrations of a Pastor or you have been greatly affected through the ministry of a particular minister, you need to invest in his life! Lives of ministers are a fertile ground!
Your life today is a result of the words you heard yesterday… In order words you must hear the word of tomorrow today! It is what you learn today that keeps you going tomorrow. If you stop learning today, you stop going!
God bless you!
