“This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” (2 Corinthians 5:17)

So, many of us often go on feeling guilty of a past that even doesn’t belong to us anymore. I bunch of ignorant Christians even go as far as pleading for mercy concerning a past that no longer belongs to them! How do I mean?

The scripture says “this means that anyone who belongs to Christ…”, wow! It really meant anyone who is in Christ! Whoever that has done whatever… as long as you are in Christ, old things are gone, your past isn’t your past anymore! You see, the environment of the new man is not the earth but Christ himself! So Christ’s past becomes yours and His future becomes yours! God isn’t promising us that we are going to be a new man… No! He is assuring us that as long as we are in Christ, we are new in all ramifications! No wonder! Through Prophet Isaiah God spoke about it and he said

“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” (Isaiah 43:19)

We were once wilderness and wasteland but not anymore! Once a way comes into the wilderness, it ceases to be a wilderness… Once a wasteland becomes green and fresh, it can never ever be identified as a waste land! In that manner, God has made us brand new as long as we are in Christ Jesus! Through Ezekiel God promised

“I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.” Ezekiel 36:26

God did not say He was going to repair our heart or even wash it! He promised us a new heart and a completely new spirit! That He was able to do through Christ! For anyone who is in Christ is a new creation… Old things are gone! In the New Testament it is no longer a promise but a statement of fact! The main text of this devotional says anyone who is in Christ “has become”, it did not say they are becoming or they are going to become! It is very simple… if you are in Christ, you are a new creation! You are not a rebranded, renovated or refurbished creation… you are completely a new creation! It doesn’t matter if you feel it or not… Paul wasn’t writing about your feelings or his feelings but that is exactly how God sees you! He sees you as a new creation… not after the lineage of Adam but of that of Christ!

The knowledge of this makes you stand boldly in God’s presence without fear, guilt and shame! The new creation you have become is the God-creation! You have exactly the same nature as He does. That is why John wrote that we are born of God’s spirit. That means the new you is mothered by God himself! You’re God’s offspring!

“Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.” (John 3:6)

You’re not going to be like Him, you’re not becoming like Him, and you’re not trying to be like Him… you are just like Him! You’re in Him and He is in you! You are together with Him! John wrote

“God’s love has reached its goal in us. So we look ahead with confidence to the Day of Judgment. While we are in this world, we are exactly like him [with regard to love]…” (John 14:17 GWT)

Oh Hallelujah! The knowledge of this makes us expectant of God’s judgment day! We as Christian should not be afraid of judgment! We look ahead with confidence! While we are in this world, God’s love has made us exactly like Himself! Glory to God…. This is a cause to always be thankful to God! All you need to do now is to learn to live your new life if indeed you have given your life to Christ. The previous devotional will help you: DEVELOPING GODLY HABIT
