“Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).
Truth is that everyone isn’t going to heaven. The day each of us will step into eternity may come sooner than we think. But we can know for sure if we are among those whose eternity has been secured.
2000 and something years ago, the apostles, Peter and John were preaching the gospel of our Saviour to a large crowd in Jerusalem. It was during that crusade that Peter made a profound statement that echoes into our post-modern world. Hear him
“Only Jesus has the power to save! His name is the only one in all the world that can save anyone”. (The Acts 4:12 CEV)
As it was then, so it is now! All way does not lead to God but there is a way that leads to God.
So many people feel that there is no need for Jesus, they feel they can have eternal life outside Jesus! They desire the good promises of glory, but they don’t want to be bothered by the cross neither do they care about the one who was hung on it for the sins of all!
Many are simply looking for other paths because they have no interest in Jesus who unfortunately for them is the only way. A warning came from Jesus himself, there is no other path that leads to heaven!
The consequences for not accepting this truth is grave! Eternity in hell! You see, God is not wicked, he doesn’t take people to hell. People chose to walk their way to hell. Let’s hear directly from Jesus:
“Everyone who has faith in the Son has eternal life. But no one who rejects him will ever share in that life, and God will be angry with them for ever.” (John 3:36 CEV)
Some people feel that God is not narrow-minded to provide only one way to heaven. But this isn’t really about heaven, it is about him! Jesus is the way we are united with God, all thing consist in him and the day we surrendered to Jesus, we became Children of God.
In the light of mankind’s rebellious rejection of God, he is extremely generous to provide us with a way to be united back to him.
Looking at it from a more reasonable point of view, we deserve judgement but he showed mercy! It only matters if we accept his mercies which endures forever or not. Jesus is the only way of escape from condemnation. Whether it seems narrow or broad, its the truth and the life!
“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.” – Matthew 7:13-14 NIV
The only way to eternal salvation is Jesus. It doesn’t matter if we see God as a judgemental personality but the truth remains obvious, we must repent from our sins and live for God. He is God, the righteous judge.
Let me talk a little about repenting from sins.
Why does God require repentance from sin? It is because sinful actions are a result of the sinful nature and is propelled by hate, greed and self centred-ness. Repentance from sin means accepting God’s judgement on sin, accepting that you need help and deliverance from sin and yielding yourself to Jesus who has offered salvation.
God wants us to live in love for him and for our fellow men! But we can’t do such without first rejecting our old lives and coming to God.
You can’t believe in Jesus and still love your old life. You want a change, that’s why you need Jesus. If we profess to be Christians, we must recognize Christ for who He said He is—the one and only way to God. To deny that is to deny himself, for it was He who declared,
“I am the way, the truth, and the life! Without me, no one can go to the Father.” (John 14:6 CEV)
There is a big distinction between those who have eternal life and those who do not. John wrote
“He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life” (1 John 5:12).
Those who believe in Christ Jesus have accepted and received salvation of which eternal life is part of the package. To believe in Jesus is how to live in obedience.
“Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son” (John 3:18).
Heaven will be extremely glorious for those who choose Jesus Christ as Savior, hell will be extremely grievous for those who rejected him. There is just one way to be saved and that way is Jesus, the scripture is very clear on that. He has given us this warning:
“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it” (Matthew 7:13-14).
Why is Jesus the narrow gate? Because he is the only way that leads to eternal life but every other way leads to hell. Those who follow Jesus are guaranteed to get there.
How can you get saved?
It is very simple, believe and be saved. You can say this sincerely
“Lord Jesus, I accept that I am a sinner who cannot help myself. I believe that you are the son of God who paid the ultimate price to set me free. I accept you today as my Lord and saviour and I am willing to live for you as you lead me. I receive your Spirit, the Holy Spirit into my life and I express the fruits of the spirit from now henceforth. Thank you Jesus.”
